I am a PROtector.
I wasn’t always a big, strong, powerful football player. Not so long ago, I was a kid who lost his Mom and thought I was left alone in this world.
Fortunately, I had people step up and be the PROtector I needed to get me where I am today. But not all kids are that lucky. That is why I am starting the PROtectors movement.
It is not an organization. It is an affiliation that anyone can engage. Simply care enough to follow the acronym:
P. Pay Attention. If you notice a kid who is not acting like a kid, then notice, and then
R. Respond. If you notice signs of withdrawal, choosing to being alone, or some other sign of distress, these are indications that something’s is not right. Every state publishes a list of signs of neglect, abuse, bullying, or some other hidden issue in minor children. Learn the signs. And when you see them, RESPOND.
O. OPEN DOORS. Having the courage to act once you see a need is the most important thing anyone can do. But once you are paying attention, and you respond to what you see, you are now responsible for that kid’s blind side. Kids are the closest thing to God humanity knows. When you find yourself in that moment when you can choose to act and open a door, make a play and do it.
You don’t have to play football to be on my team. Every kid deserves to be in a safe place where they can thrive and grow. And if they are not, then it is up to all of us to BE A PROtector and do whatever it takes to get them there.
Affiliate, Advocate, and make an impact. Thank God, not all kids need the help I got. But I pray that no kid will ever slip through the cracks because nobody was looking out for them. Join my team. Be a PROtector.
