We're ready for Microsoft Recall and the automatic screenshots it takes of everything on your desktop. Signal Desktop on Windows now includes support for a new "Screen security" feature designed to block screenshots of your Signal chats. signal.org/blog/signal-doesn…

peace and love signal, but without some kernel mode stuff your WDA_EXCLUDEFROMCAPTURE isn't going to stop Microsoft from screen capping u (unless they're lazy and its literally all user mode)

It's completely wild that people voluntarily use that OS.

Nice. 👏 Crazy that Microsoft doesn’t allow developers to simply opt out! I presume/hope that Apple’s forthcoming “more personalized Siri” (not the same thing, but designed for similar purposes) will give app developers the choice to either opt in or out.
It might only be a matter of time before Apple does similar things, though 🤞 not as ham-fisted as screenshotting. Apple said last year that it was working on a “more personalized Siri” that will understand personal context. Presumably there’ll be a way to include/exclude apps.

Your shitty Windows app can't even be secured against unauthorized access with my password! Your desktop application is very dangerous

Is this still happening?

But you STILL won't encrypt the local db file for conversations properly?

I hope this becomes the new norm for applications. Recall is disgusting and the people behind it are terrible people.

I really love signal for stuff like this

Once all major windows apps implement this, Microsoft Recall will be pretty much a useless feature.

But the app allows screen captures on Android mobile. So how can it be called as secure feature.

While this is awesome, how did you swap the screenshot with something else for Recall? A much simpler method would be to call SetWindowDisplayAffinity() with WDA_EXCLUDEFROMCAPTURE on your window handles: learn.microsoft.com/en-us/wi…

What about a polling feature that everyone is requesting?

Signal on Windows is so insecure. Please encrypt conversations properly, and let us set a PW for even opening Signal. Windows' own security isn't enough. I wouldn't touch the desktop versions of signal with a ten foot pole.

That’s a real thing?

Hi, when the app updated to 7.4 to 7.55 it removed the Signal.exe and now I can't open the app because the exe it's missing. I tried uninstalling it and installing the 7.4 version, which opens, but right away it asks me to update and the same thing happens, deleting the .exe

Everyone needs to do this with their Windows applications to send a message.

It would have been a great feature if only they respected the user right to own his own data. Feels more like a spyware than a tool.

We’ve reached peak irony: using *DRM* to protect chats from the OS. Signal just rewrote the rules against Recall’s surveillance. A sad but necessary evolution.

@signalapp Signal has terrible tech support. I've been trying to get help on a simple issue for over a month. Nothing. Repeated emails -- nothing. I was a big supporter. Not anymore.
