The Zohran Mamdani victory is reminiscent of that Obama 2008 win.. When elected officials become heroes and saviors, movements get crushed because of the delusion of succeeding in changing the system from within.

I struggle with not feeling frustrated toward people who are politically uninformed and largely disengaged, only getting involved briefly to vote for whoever is popular, then ignoring politics again until the next election.

A decolonized Palestine will not be binational. It will be a Palestinian state, rooted in indigenous sovereignty. Jewish communities that reject Zionism and commit to justice can live here—but not with stolen land or settler privilege.

We were explicitly told by NYPD “why can’t you be like the other guys & get a permit?” they even referenced the time and date of the Palestine action that was upcoming & permitted. Before this we never had an issue with sound.

For years, liberation movements in NYC have steered clear from applying for NYPD sound permits; as the only function they serve is collaborating with police. They don’t keep us safe and our ability to use sound relies on people power. We refuse to legitimize the permit system.

They are scaring us with the consequences of resisting genocide by threatening to physically harm and humiliate us. The arrest is just pretext. Most of these arrests are summons that become DATs or get dismissed at trial. It doesn’t even stop the march. Just appeases racists.
