It is interesting how DC feels distinctly more part of American culture over Marvel even with the success of the MCU

Like even now I think the wonder woman, Superman, and Batman symbols all feel like giant symbols of pop culture over anything from marvel except Spider-Man

It's because Marvel did everything in its power to push the Avengers over their original Big 3.

Its cause DC most famous superheroes (superman, batman, wonder woman, etc...) have a distinctly vintage and olden feel to them compared to marvel where other than like spiderman, xmen and maybe captain America, they feel like they are always modern.

DC just screams America for some reason while Marvel doesn't have that level of "murica" energy even with a character literally dressed in the flag

A couple mfs wear some fucking costumes this Halloween and you’d think marvel hadn’t completely dominated DC culturally for the past 15 years lmao aight man

DC is older, Marvel wasn't as popular until the 60's so 20 year head start

What does culture have to do with this
Replying to @skeleoncemore
Because Superman Batman and wonder woman are so ingrained in americana that even with marvels massive surge in popularity in the 2000's - 2010's, its difficult to unseat the trinity from public consciousness.

marvel just doesn’t capture my attention the same way. growing up in a military family marvel just feels like white people military propaganda slop whereas DC characters truly feel like their own people + they’re so good at portraying societal issues

I think it's largely longevity. DC's biggest heroes are a generation older than most of Marvel's, so they're more of the public consciousness. When the current younger generation grows up, I'd bet it'll be more even or maybe even lean toward Marvel.

DC are meant to be grandiose larger than life figures while Marvel are supposed to be more "grounded" interpersonally. Guys like Supes, Bats and Wondie are closer to tall tale figures like Paul Bunion or Pecos Bill which gives them the feel like parts of America as a concept.

I have a weird theory Marvel has become way too generalized OR it's because most people associate Marvel with their movies If someone were to dress up as Thor or Iron Man, 9/10 they're dressing up like the movie counterparts

marvel is spiritually british, kitchen sink drama or unreachable dreamlike magic, dc is spiritually american larger than life ideals still meant to be strived towards

The majority of their impact happened before most of us were born. The chokehold dc had over boomers during the golden age cannot be overstated. That’s how they stayed relevant even after the launch of the mcu

I mean DC been at the game for a century. Way before Marvel was even a thing in the public mind. Only Spidey and Hulk are as iconic.

Superman and Wonder Woman are symbols of Americana and Batman is the most popular superhero ever. Makes sense to me.

DC is American mythology. The Justice League is our Pantheon, their Watchtower is Mount Olympus. I discuss this thoroughly on my channel.

IMO, it’s solely due to the timeframe when they were most popular. The reason the DC trinity and Spider-Man are considered the Mount Rushmore of superheroes isn’t because of modern popularity, but HISTORIC popularity. Superman is THE superhero, Wonder Woman is THE superheroine…

I think it's mostly cause DC had a 20 year head start on embedding themselves into the culture. Yeah, the MCU was super successful, but it took them way too long to reach that point

Truth is, even with the MCU, Marvel will never have it's characters become as iconic as DC's, other than Spider-man I don't see any other Marvel character on the level of Batman, Superman and Wonder woman

the justice league characters in particular feel classic because they’re consciously ingrained with traits from old folk heroes and gods but also 20th century icons. Wonder Woman and her outfit remind me of Rosie the Riveter while Batman reminds me Dick Tracy and Humphrey Bogart.

I agree but is really fun to think one of Marvel’s most popular characters is Captain AMERICA and 90% of Marvel stories are in just New York (other 10% being cosmic)

lowkey a major plus that a large chunk of DC's cast haven't been overshadowed by their live action film designs or just haven't been in any in recent time, they haven't had their comic-rooted iconography revoked in the way a lot of the marvel cast has had done to them atp yknow

Dressing as one if the heroes works better for DC than Marvel imo DC Batman - Variety, looks cool, ez to get Superman - same as last Wonder woman - same as last but women Marvel Ironman - Hard to make/get as an outfit Capt A - bad connotations Hulk - steroids required
