“I came back from a meeting with the devil.” Rom Braslavski endured the most SADISTIC TORTURE that any captivity survivor has opened up about. Here’s what he survived in Palestinian Islamic Jihad’s torture dungeons in Gaza: 🔸Stripped naked and tied up, subjected to other sexual violence he can’t talk about 🔸Blindfolded as his captors hammered stones into his ears with a NAIL 🔸 Beaten for 20 minutes seven times a day, grabbed so he wouldn’t lose consciousness and felt everything 🔸Whipped with a donkey lash, leaving physical scars 🔸Captors lied that his father was dead and they saw his funeral on TV 🔸Attempted forced conversion to Islam, tempted with food while starving 🔸Captors ate feasts in front of him, while reducing him to a human skeleton 🔸Given only half a liter of water a day 🔸Forced to dance for his jihadi captors’ entertainment via @HazinorX /@DailyMail

Rust adopted many of the good parts of FP (immutability, ADT, pattern matching, higher order functions and lambdas) and left away the parts like Kleislis and categories - @snoyberg (paraphrased)

Replying to @libbyemmons
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. — CS Lewis

I just came across this in an Open Society Foundations document about how to fix public “mistrust” of liberal "democracy," and I honestly feel sick reading it. I've read many alarming quotes, but few are so "mask off" like this. "I believe the time has come for a responsible, courageous elite, those who care far more about addressing the genuine social problems than about election results. Only a political elite with vision, prudence and a focus on the general good—to whom the electorate… can cede part of their sovereignty in the elections—will be able to justify public trust and spearhead... our struggle to survive."" Read that again. The proposed solution to the public's distrust in democracy... is less democracy. An unelected "elite" to whom the public should cede sovereignty. Abolish democracy to save democracy. This kind of thinking is what we're up against.

@snoyberg : I think I’m going to try an Arch Linux install this time Me, in my head:
> Nix Reply = Block
In today’s “Linux is a horrible dev platform” example we have a Docker file that has to meticulously downgrade and upgrade packages in-between steps so assorted components can build and be duct taped together. Why does anyone think this is ok and not horrible? Nix Reply = Block

To the Government of Nigeria & @officialABAT: President Trump has provided forewarning if you do not correct the current state of inaction to stop the killing of our brothers and sisters in Christ in your country. The days of the US looking the other way are over - it will never happen on @POTUS’ watch. I urge you to cooperate with us in preventing this atrocity that worsens everyday. We want your people to live in peace - all of them, especially Christians. The President has been clear. I would not test his resolve. Many have tried and all have failed. We will not allow the gates of hell to prevail against the faithful.

The whole idea of not repudiating the extreme elements of your "side" is based on the assumption that this will help you win. But what if the lesson of the woke left is that handing your movement over to the psychos is actually a great way to lose in the long run?

People are getting out of debts and they are proud. People are getting out of unemployment and they are proud. People are getting independent of their parents and they are proud. People are getting out of welfare and they are proud of themselves. Being on welfare sucks.

Because unlike you and Mamdami and Ilhan Omar and so many of your fellow invaders, I was born in the United States. My parents were born in the United States after one of my Grandfathers served in the American military in WW2. My family did not come from Israel. None ever lived there. I never even visited until I was in my 30s. My family fled Ukraine and Russian 100+ years ago to come to America for the hope it represented, not to destroy it. We saw it as the greatest place in the world, not as a place to conquer and make part of a Caliphate. We are Jews, but we did not expect the Country to bend to our traditions. We saw it as our obligation to integrate into them. To make American traditions our own. Unlike you and Mamdami and Omar, I’ve never been a citizen of another nation, let alone a Muslim one. You had a good run, with Americans cowed into silence with fake cries of “Islamophobia” and “Diversity is our Strength.” We have seen what your friends have done to Britain. We aren’t going to let you do it here. Your jig is up. The battle is joined. You’re going to lose.
Randy Fine called @ZohranKMamdani "the enemy within" and said that he should be denaturalized and deported for not being loyal to America. Sounds like a dual loyalty trope to me. So, why don't we kick Randy Fine's fat ass out of the country for being loyal to Israel over America?
Wow reinstalling Windows on my son’s machine… the Linux installation process is so much more user friendly!

There are two types of dogs:
Since I scared at least one person with this post: no, I didn't throw anything out. I did my heaviest squat set in years (maybe ever) 2 days ago and my back has been sore since. I was fairly certain it was just DOMS. After deadlifting today: yup, just DOMS, no injury!

One of the hardest things to learn in weight lifting: the difference between "oh that's a good burn, push through, don't give up!" and "oh shit I just pulled something time to rest."
