Great to see so much interest in this topic! To reiterate what we announced in our 2024 blog post: we're building the ChromeOS experience on top of Android underlying technology to unlock new levels of performance, iterate faster, & make your laptop + phone work better together. I'm excited about it!
An interview with Google President of Android Ecosystem Sameer Samat, who says Google is going to combine "ChromeOS and Android into a single platform" (@lanceulanoff / TechRadar) techradar.com/phones/android… techmeme.com/250714/p6#a2507…

What if you added a desktop mode to the Google TV stream, you could Bluetooth a keyboard and have simple computing right on your TV anytime you want. I think that would be a game changer for Android Computing and accessibility. Android Compute Anywhere has a nice ring to it.

Will these changes have any bearing on how ChromeOS user facing UI and functionality will be? I work for an MSP and we support several schools whose students primarily use Chromebooks so I'm wondering if anything major will change there.

You said we will see future in Android but it still can't show battery level of most connected Bluetooth devices including many WearOS devices like Galaxy Watch lineup! (I don't even dream Airpods support). But those same device show battery level in iOS like Amazfit Watches.

I've been waiting for a Google OS for computers (desktops) for a long time. Android dominates the smartphone market, and I've always seen the potential for us to one day have an Android PC to use on our desktops, creating an ecosystem without a Win or a MAC in the middle of it.

Samat This is Richard, and I should tell you every time I get things like the cell & the computer working good together Micro slams my work and won't let it continue. None of my bio verified things connect anymore. Since Sam went to Microsoft with all that he had for funding.
Congratulations 🪷🪷 🌹🌹 👏 👏

That sounds like a big step forward. What kind of performance improvements can users expect first?

As long term user of chromebook and android I am very interested in this development. You know you should pay attention to your fans too
Can someone explain what this means? Why is this good / bad and for who ?

I've been wanting to ask the right person at Google. Can you all revamp the Pixel Launcher? I will forever use Nova as Pixel Launcher lacks making folders within the app drawer. My rationale is that the home screen should be for widgets and wallpaper.

When will ChromeOS merge with Android, what will it look like in practice, and how will it impact Chromebook devices? Will Chromebooks continue to be produced?

What makes Chrome OS is the clean interface. I use a variety of operating systems. Chrome is a great place to research and think. I can use the split view and have a Google doc open. Past in notes. As far as the kernel used, does not matter to most end users.

Sameer, So Android and ChromeOS are merging... again? Feels like classic Google — teams in silos, no one talks, most don't even know Chromebooks exist. I’ve used both systems for years. Let me run the project — I’ll give you the universal OS you’ve been teasing since 2009.
