I see a lot of debate about the new pokemon game, so I'll give my honest thoughts that you guys know I don't hold back. Though i've only played like 10 hours so far.
First off, game is good
Cons:
- Graphics: looks like a ps2 game
- No voice acting. It really needs it for cutscenes
- Tutorial dragged on. I wanted freedom to do what I wanted.
- Why can't I jump?
- Game shouldnt cost $10 more for S2 edition. I paid a lot of money for the new hardware. Switch 1 version is $60. I shouldn't be punished for paying them more.
Pros:
- Combat is fun. I'm not just spamming the strongest move an winning. I can use status moves and buffs because cooldowns. Dodging is fun. All moves got redesigned and act differently, so "weaker" moves might actually be better.
- Exploration is great. City is packed with stuff in very close distance. Dense content > Open world emptiness
- Character design is amazing. They're all quite charming and offer that iconic pokemon look
- Humor. Lots of really funny scenes in story and side quests or just NPC's
- Alphas are back and are fun to fight. They attack you and your pokemon
- Shiny hunting is very forgiving. It respects your time.
Meh:
- Graphics again: Personally, I don't care about this that much. Gameplay >>> graphics. Megabonk looks like turd but is amazing. Don't care for UE5 slop look.
- Story. Like most Nintendo games, I'm not playing Pokemon for an epic story. I'm playing it to battle and catch monsters with a charming atmosphere. Pokemon is more about charming characters anyway, which this game has a lot of.
- There's lots of people populating the city. Some are doing cool things, but there's a lot that just kinda stand around. Same with Pokemon. Some are in cool places, some are just standing around doing nothing.
Overall, I'm enjoying my time. I can't really put it down either.
