Прикольно (чи ні, хз), що більшість костилів не через лінощі або навіть невміння інакше. Найчастіше костилі — через брак часу. Я поганенький програміст, бо мої рішення зазвичай квадратно-гніздові, а вони не завжди підходять. Зараз, наприклад підтримка геймпаду в UI живе на двох плагінах, бо один з них галімий і кривий, але дуже очевидно працює з динамічними елементами (тими що створюються at runtime). Другий офігєнний, але достукатись в нього at runtime поки не виходить🤷🏻‍♂️ Або меню. Пауза і головне меню це фактично клони один одного, але ось цей динамічний фончик level specific і тому для головного меню і рівнів воно різне (поки що). Більшість опцій в налаштуваннях поки просто кнопками, бо доку до плагіна я вже прочитав, але ніхєра не зрозумів і треба залипнути на день-два-тиждень, а в мене є 30-40 хв. I’m pretty happy with how new version of Tailgate’s UI feels. Comes with a couple of crutches (I didn’t manage to make any complex UI Elements like dropdowns, checkboxes or sliders (making them isn’t difficult, making them work with a game pad is a nightmare though). I went with buttons so far, which is not great, but it works for now. #indiedev #gamedev #indiegames #UnrealEngine #UI #Tailgate

I’m pretty happy with how new version of Tailgate’s UI feels. I think it would be good to clarify that Tailgate is nothing like any of these. People often confuse “inspired by” and “similar to”. The most similar game to Tailgate would be Stray or Farewell North (but Tailgate was a year into development when I first played both); For me as a narrative guy, inspirations often lie not in visuals or mechanics. It’s what kids call “vibe” these days (pun intended). These are narrative elements, tropes, cliches and motives. In Half-life, you are wandering alone, occasionally meeting other folks that may or may not help you, but won’t do the job for you regardless. They will send you further or try to kill you. In Nox, you are an unlikely hero, who just wants to back to his TV, but has to pass the trials, fix a TON of other peoples’s problems and defeat an evil sorceress to get back. In Firewatch you won’t meet any people, the only person you interact with is Delilah, and you only do it via the radio. #indiegames #story #narrative #gamedev

Tailgate less than stellar performance on the deck was bugging me. So I’ve spent some time to optimise the upcoming demo (and core systems as well); now it goes at decent 100+ fps with all the fancy stuff off (but still looking more or less as intended). Stable 60+ with all the bells and whistles on (on my rig). And 40+ fps on Deck. Це міг бути важливий фільм, а вийшов беззубий, хоч і гарно знятий проходняк. Мене з десяток моментів буквально розсмішили, але мабуть задум був налякати чи заставити задуматись. Вафлєжуйство з претензією на якийсь важливий месадж, але месадж який воно комунікує насправді мабуть в плани не входив.

Late to #screenshotsaturday and honestly I don’t have anything ultimately new to show (been tinkering with performance and while I do have 100 fps/10ms at 1440p), it looks kinda lame (not this one). That being said still making some progress in different aspects, and that’s kinda cool. Promoting the game takes too much precious hours these days (and sucks a lot of energy), so I’m gonna dial down on promo from December and focus on development more. #indiegames #adventuregames #UnrealEngine5 #Tailgate #dog
