Saz is a proper reproduction of a medieval instrument. However, in the hands of Percival, it is no less unique because Mikołaj adapted the instrument and developed a unique way to play it in order to better fit Slavic music. Due to these adjustments, Mikołaj prefers to call it a long-necked lute, rather than a saz.

The instrument played by Kasia is handcrafted by Mikołaj and based on reproductions of the rebec - a string instrument from the Middle Ages. Rather than recreate it one-to-one, he applied some unique adjustments and ideas to achieve a truly unique sound. After consulting a music historian, it was concluded that the closest historical equivalent of this created instrument would be the Byzantine lyra (although some call it kamancheh).
