My first ever barred owl today in by the North Woods. I took this shot at a respectful distance and well after sunset with my bridge camera, so I had to post process in Lightroom. Thank you to everyone for the heads up on the owl. #birdcpp

Absolutely, Sarah. You have been a model of courage and an inspiration to all of us. Imagine if everyone - upon noticing their organisations had been captured by ideologues - decided to just up and leave? What would that achieve?

Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa just landed in the United States — the first time a Syrian president has visited the U.S, not part of the UNGA. He’ll be meeting with President Trump this week. And here he is playing basketball with the Commander of CENTCOM, Brad Cooper. Just 11 months ago, the United States had a $10 million bounty on his head. Twenty years ago, he was held for years at the U.S. military facility at Camp Bucca after being captured by American forces in Iraq during the insurgency. To say that this is one of the most stunning turnarounds in U.S. diplomatic and counterterrorism history, I believe, is an understatement.
Why didn’t Newscast do a balancing 60 special interview with ⁦@ForWomenScot⁩? Listeners got this (a long interview with an unhappy man who identifies as a woman) but not a parallel, long & exploratory interview with the 3 women who made history bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0lh0c…

Yes, I follow both. Disagree with Helen on this. The BBC has been disgraceful on women's rights & who is not sick of the endless parade of drag queens & transwomen. But the answer is to hold it to account. Not get rid of it altogether.

Yes they are. But it would be a grave mistake to focus on one but not the other. If @BBC does not get this right those who want to destroy it will take, & are taking full advantage. On women's political & legal rights @BBC has got things woefully wrong.
Hands up all those who think @BorisJohnson is well placed to lecture anyone else on upholding standards & admitting mistakes.  As I said this morning on @bbcr4today “it’s clear that there is a genuine concern about editorial standards and mistakes. There is also a political campaign by people who want to destroy the organisation…Both things are happening at the same time”

And this is very depressing if you grew up steeped in the idea that reason is the bedrock of of an enlightened society.

This framing is now psychologically essential for certain people. Their whole sense of self will collapse if they don't cling to it like drowning men (and women) to a raft. There is no reasoning with it.

Report on the silencing of liberal/left feminist academics, journalists, trade unionists, women's rights campaigners & female athletes. Stop framing us all as on the political right.

I'm surprised but pleased that you at least understand the gravity of this issue Those of us who back the BBC don't want it destroyed, but it's manufacturing ammunition for its enemies

Report on extensive campaigning by women across the political spectrum to defend substantive equality for women & girls. Including the right to single sex services, provisions & sports when sex matters. Stop asymmetrically platforming & advocating for males with trans identities.

From one of the people who made Stonewall podcast 👇
Anyone who saw the BBC News website calling big hairy rapists ‘she’ and ‘her’ would’ve known there was a problem.

For those who support public service broadcasting it's so important @BBC gets this right. Stop overwriting sex with 'gender identity' in policy areas where it is sex that matters: women's, children's, lesbian & gay, rights. Report without fear or favour.
I agree with Nick. It is also true the campaign against the BBC is being fought by toxic forces with far less concern for accuracy and balance than the Beeb's news division. I'm sure, this time, Lisa Nandy, and her DCMS team, will call this right. Errors happen. We need the BBC. We need to understand this is a planned and coordinated offensive by hostile forces.
In the early 2020s, barely a week went by without a male being lauded by BBC Sports for his achievements in beating women at their own game. Nowadays, it’s harder to spot the men because the BBC has taken to describing them as women, without the transgender qualifier. In this piece about the latest fitness craze Hyrox, BBC journalist Emma Smith (of which more later), interviews Lucy Gabriel. What Smith doesn’t mention is that Gabriel is a male competing in the female category. Most readers would have no idea that Lucy Gabriel is male. Passing off a male as a female competitor without any statement that the male is transgender is deception, and does not pass even the first basic journalistic principle of accuracy. bbc.co.uk/sport/articles/cwy… 2/6
I agree with @bbcnickrobinson that there are two things going on. Some people really do want to end the BBC. (I really don’t) Yes there are contested views on politics but on women’s rights I think there has been a prolonged, sad collapse in serious, curious journalism.

We live in a time of deep divisions - about politics & culture - Gaza/Israel, trans & women’s rights, Donald Trump’s policies & politics - to name just three. The BBC like many public organisations faces competing pressures about how we should navigate these treacherous waters. We, like others, undoubtedly make mistakes. We, like others, need to listen & learn. We can & will do better but we should stand up to those who prefer propaganda & disinformation. To be clear I don’t speak for the BBC. I do, however, hope I speak for many who work in it, watch/listen & read what we report & who want to see the BBC thrive in an era of propaganda & disinformation. I look forward to hearing what the Chairman of the BBC will say in response to legitimate concerns which have been raised but I have no idea what he plans to say nor did he - or any other my bosses - know what I said on air today or here on X
