reminds me of that one lecturer who was teaching us "industry things". Every time he'd say "now this is how you'll do it in the industry", he'd talk about something that is absolutely not done in the industry

What the lecturer actually means is that is how it would be ideally done in industry 10 years ago

yeah same. i had a lecturer that worked for a bank until 2008 and she told me info that was 15 years out of date

I had one of those. But at the end of the day, industry is what whatever works for your case.
