Watching this #interview, you'll learn a lot of things. I've had the pleasure of speaking with Ben Lang, the founder of Road To #VR, someone who has been in the industry since 2011 (before Oculus was a thing). skarredghost.com/2025/10/08/… We covered a lot of topics, and he gave us many lessons, like for instance: - How a VR indie game studio should perform outreach to be featured in magazines (having a unique value proposition and a custom pitch helps a lot) - How to write a good VR review (being objective is key) - How to be a good VR journalist (be independent, speak only out of verified sources) - How to design a proper UX in your VR games (copy and evolve some smart solutions that have already been implemented by other games) - What should we expect from the next 15 years in XR (things should move faster than the previous 15 years) I suggest watching the full interview so that you can access all the knowledge that Ben has and that he has shared with us. Plus, you can also listen to a fun anecdote involving Palmer Luckey...

I won't pretend to understand Japanese social mores. Asahi is releasing a Vision Pro app that provides "new value to drinking alone at home." "While many people enjoy drinking at home, some say that 'drinking alone at home' can easily become monotonous and lacks novelty."
All this money thrown at a rebrand. Like tears in the rain.

instead of doing something for a month or two and then quietly giving up on it in private, this year I'm going to do something for an even shorter amount of time and *loudly* give up on it, like registering for a marathon or being able to articulate my haircut choices to a barber

XR game studios be like: We're thrilled to announce 'Game Series: The Thing - The Battle for SEO', a prequel to Popular Series, but the IP holder isn't cool with VR yet, so they're playing it safe by letting us have a crack. Also, here's a live-action teaser (no release date)

Game studio PR be like: Hi Scott, I wanted to thank you so much for covering our game in your recent article. Just wanted to note that 'Game Series' is actually called 'Game Series: The Thing - The Battle for SEO'. Can you fix that in the article in all instances? Thnx by

Still, there's a reason AR glasses like Meta's Orion prototype include a light tint in their lenses. Light transmission is a key factor is making AR useable in outdoor settings, and the clearest (pun intended) way of doing that is providing a darkened background
That also presumes Japanese consumers don't gravitate towards AR glasses that uniquely prioritize (mostly) see-through lens architectures like LetinAR's mirror bar config. Sharp and Docomo are launching these in Japan later this year which do just that roadtovr.com/sharp-ntt-docom…
Japanese consumers may also prefer smartglasses with less immersive huds (and clear lenses) than proper AR glasses too, provided that cultural norm persists. It's going to be interesting to see how their domestic market responds as fourth largest behind US, EU, and China
while devices like camera sensor-equipped ear buds and clear glasses frames can do a lot of heavy lifting in terms of AI scene digestion and output, another uniquely Japanese pitfall is the cultural taboo of not talking on the phone in public transport, limiting audio input

I can imagine flip-up designs working in the near term, although that defeats the purpose of having an all-day device that supplants smartphones. Maybe Japan will be tech hold outs, vis-a-vis the fax machine and hanko stamps, and just stay with the smartphone until critical mass?
I wonder how the Japanese aversion to wearing sunglasses in public might influence AR glasses sales there in the future.

anyone else hate subtitles in VR? Because they consistently fail me. Uncomfortably follow your gaze ✅ z-fight with characters, giving me a headache ✅ visually telegraph performance issues ✅ What's the solution??

Skydance prefers journos to call their game Skydance's Behemoth, and not just Behemoth. Can't wait for Skydance's Behemoth's release!

Really wish Mobile Suit Gundam: Silver Phantom hadn't gone down the VR film path. The inclusion of 1st person stuff is fun, but they're way too precious with those moments. I see something cool, and the game is like "nope, not for you. here's a fun lever for a second tho."
