The problem with TikTok isn't China, it's not privacy, it's that it's designed as a digital narcotic, feeding people messages that are perfectly tailored to their prejudices and biases and assumptions, and encouraging creators to make more of those messages to grow their audience
TikTok is the best machine humanity has yet invented for creating and accelerating groupthink, and the radicalization that groupthink causes. It figures out exactly what audiences want to hear, and feeds them those precise messages, straight from the mouths of their peers

It's harmless when the result is a meme about the Roman Empire that suddenly everyone is talking about at once. It's less harmless when the thing being spread are dangerously false and deeply radical political beliefs
Legislating against TikTok itself doesn't really solve these problems because it's the structure of the social media format that's the problem, not the company itself, and others could easily emulate it - although maybe a different owner would exercise more accountability
That's absolutely correct. All social media is essentially in an arms race to grow audiences and keep people watching by feeding them their own biases back to them, but TikTok has (at the moment) the most effective approach x.com/cliddle/status/1767943…

I think social media is a massive worldwide political crisis that's getting worse every year, and we're frequently refusing to acknowledge it because: -the companies are powerful -politicians are afraid voters will rebel if you try to take their drug of choice away

No no no- o more than any group medium. I watch mainly music and landscapes. Little political stuff hits me except Gaza- which I search for regularly. Lots of self help stuff. That’s about it. But it allows you to interact with people around the world. Which opens windows

do you have any data backing your causal arguments as a so-called researcher or do you just pull things out of your ass. You didn't learn how to do proper qualitative research in your African American studies masters it sounds lie

Tiktok isn't the best; it's only one tentacle reaching into human psyches. MSM & TV/movie industry are other arms. Also, NHI, CDC, WHO... - this machine has more arms than MIB II's Serleena. We're all screwed.

It’s China and privacy. And that’s about it.
