Crazy, this was sung by a white dude, but every cookout and family get-together at least where I grew up was black people who played this song.

I’ll never forget. I was a freshman in high school and was up late one night watching Midnight Love on BET when this video was played. Very few songs grab me the very first time I hear them. But this was one that did.

In 1985 this song, Anita Baker and Sade were what created the "Quiet Storm" radio format across the country

So I discovered this song during covid on YouTube. I was jamming to it and was like damn this sound like some shit my grandad would like. He’s been in the universe for 10 years now. Called my mom she said he loved that song. Extremely special song to me🩷

MTV was so full of racist BS. they didn't play black R&B but played all the white emulations of R&B. and people somehow think racism was nearly over. they were so vile that even David Bowie had to check them about that. not sure if this white R&B artist said anything

I lived in South Africa then and nobody I knew owned a TV. When I heard this song, I thought it was being sung by a soulful, black woman. Imagine my surprise 👨🏼‍🦰 😵
