How does an engine "fall off?"

Ever time I see this video is bring back video of Flight 191 DC-10 in Chicago 1979...its every close to how that flight lost an engine and crashed and killed 273 that day, two were on the ground.

Tragic loss. Investigators must uncover the truth swiftly. Aviation safety demands strict maintenance and accountability to prevent such devastating failures.

It looks like the left engine detached from the plane seconds before take off

Engines fall off when the maintenance crews find a way to shave off 600 manhours by using a forklift to remove and replace an engine using a forklift, vs following the manufacturer recommended disassembly steps. This has happened before (air disaster episode #iforget)

Hell of a movie opening

Seems similar to American Airlines 191. At least in regard to the engine falling from the plane.

Tragic loss of life. But has anyone weighed in on the loss of priceless items or original documents?

An engine fell off?

not saying it’s DEI, but when you spend resources supporting it, you have to cut the budget somewhere.

Aviation safety’s supposed to be bulletproof — how does something like this still happen in 2025?

A catastrophic and statistically rare aviation failure. The in flight separation of an engine points to potential structural or maintenance failure in the MD 11 a model involved in 12 hull loss accidents since its introduction. NTSB analysis will focus on fatigue cycles and maintenance logs for the 25 year old aircraft. Fatal cargo plane accidents occur at a rate of 0.14 per million flights making this a severe outlier in modern aviation safety. (Source: NTSB Aviation Accident Database)

A UPS cargo jet loses an engine mid‑takeoff, dozens dead and suddenly everyone’s scrambling for the maintenance logs. This isn’t “bad luck,” it’s systemic neglect. Decades of cutting corners, outsourcing safety, and pretending profit is progress. Now families are paying for corporate greed with their lives, and the feds are asking questions they should’ve asked years ago.
