Please see this review Google and fix the damn issues please for God sake
I used the Google Pixel 8 Pro for 30 days. Here is my review ๐
Design -
Pros โ
- The most comfortable and the best looking flagship in the market
- I've typed numerous scripts on this phone and I've never faced any sort of hand pain
- Fantastic design makes it stand out in the crowd! I've had people come up to me and ask about this phone
- Brilliant haptics make typing a pleasant experience
- Speakers are loud and sound full
- Optical fingerprint sensor works well
- Honestly, I prefer the Pixel's button placement - Power Button above the Volume Rockers
Cons โ
- Along with scratches, the metallic camera bar now also has dents in it (A case is a must)
- Vibration from call alerts makes it fall from tables almost every time
- The Thermometer stands useless 'as of now'
- Face Unlock is more of a pain than an actual convenience
Connectivity and Call Quality -
Pros โ
- Mic output is great, so is the earpiece output
Cons โ
- The only phone which still has connectivity issues in 2023
- 5G is pretty much non-existent on this phone (especially for JIO users)
- Frequent call drops have frustrated me to the core
Display -
Pros โ
- I'd rate it as the best Flagship display in India
- The 6.8 inch Display is Crispy, Vibrant and gets plenty bright
- I watched Aspirants S2 on this phone, and it looked simply stunning
Cons โ
- N/A
Battery -
Pros โ
- Lasts a full day with Always-On Display off
- I constantly got around 8 Hours of Screen-On Time (which is a very respectable number in the Android world)
Cons โ
- Battery life takes a major hit with the Always-On Display On
- I was barely getting 6 Hours of Screen-On Time with AoD On
- 30W charging is still slow for 2023 standards and takes around 1.5+ Hours for a full charge
Performance and Storage -
Pros โ
- The phone feels snappy to use all the time
Cons โ
- Runs warm 24x7 in basic tasks such as scrolling X (imagine what will happen in summers)
- Tensor can't play heavy games like Genshin Impact
- A very average processor for the price
- 128GB for the base variant is simply not enough
- I've to constantly manage my files so that some storage remains free
Software -
Pros โ
- The best Android experience right now
- Beautiful animations, slick experience
- I'll be honest, Magic Editor does come in handy every once in a while
- Timely updates provide a peaceful experience
Cons โ
- Everything needs to be backed up on Google Photos for the AI magic
- AI features take A LOT of time to process
- Best Take is a Hit or Miss feature, not something you can depend upon
Camera -
Pros โ
- Main camera delivers SHARP photos and that extra contrast does look good
- Technically speaking, the Ultra Wide and Telephoto lenses are simply best in-class
- Color consistency across lenses
- HDR in daylight is pretty strong
- Fantastic night mode
- Selfie camera is pretty wide
Cons โ
- White balance issues (especially with warm light)
- Inaccurate colors in some pictures
- Skin tones tend to have a purple tint and the shadows might be noisy in certain situations
- The worst portrait mode in it's price range
- I don't understand why we can't use 5x for portraits
- Artificially boosts skin tones in videos
- Poor lens switching in video + okayish stabilization
- No 4K Action Mode (enhanced stabilization)
- Cinematic Blur (Portrait Video) is still stuck at 1080P @ 24FPS
Overall, Google has once again missed the mark with the Pixel 8 Pro. Especially in India, this phone cannot survive at โน1,06,999 (that too for the 128GB variant). The cons outweigh the pros at this price. Tensor needs to improve and the camera needs to be more flexible with its capabilities. Disappointed ๐
