Exactly two years ago, the University of Ottawa suspended me from my medical residency training in public health because of social media posts in support of Palestinian human rights. They framed my social media posts as β€œunprofessional”. The irony being that I studied the impacts of settler colonialism on health in Palestine during my public health training. They messed with the wrong person. They later reinstated me, without any apology, so I left their racist institution to put my time and energy to places and people who actually deserve it. It’s been a year since I filed a human rights complaint against the university, and they continue to try to dismiss the case with frivolous motions with factual inaccuracies, but the court seems to acknowledge the value in hearing the case. It is blatant discrimination on basis of anti-Palestinian racism. I’m taking them (and the faculty member who doxxed me) to a provincial human rights tribunal to seek accountability and justice. To anyone else who is facing similar forms of repression for solidarity with Palestine - remember you are on the right side of history. To stand against genocide is the most decent and moral position to take. To oppose genocide as a healthcare worker is the most professional position to take. Keep your head held high. The institutions will come around when there is no political or economic cost to oppose genocide. Until then, we will keep persisting and pushing back against bullies and racist institutions. Free Palestine, from the river to the sea.

Sugar Farms – Often the older children in the family would sacrifice their schooling so that younger siblings had money for clothing and food for school. Children on the sugar farms, working eight hours a day on the sugar farms of Natal, 'Indian' children did 'adults' work for a fraction of the salary. Some were not even ten years old, 1957. Zionists don't control the media, but if you criticize Zionism, you will be blacklisted from working in media again.
Candace Owens' history of spreading vicious and dangerous lies about Jews was on full display during a 25-minute interview this morning on @CNN. She repeated her false claims that the U.S. government is occupied by Zionists, called Zionists "demonic" and "literally possessed by demons," and that Israel's war with Hamas was a "Holocaust."Β And let's be clear, when she says "Zionists," she means Jews. We appreciate the pushback and debunking of lies from the interviewer.Β But we are deeply concerned CNN mainstreamed Owens' antisemitism and they somehow decided this was a newsworthy interview in the first place. Learn more about Candace Owens and her regular promotion of antisemitic tropes and rhetoric on our website: adl.org/resources/background…

Gosh. How dignified and edifying. A Member of Parliament resorting to insult instead of argument, and seemingly unable to read section 9 of the Constitution to which they swear allegiance. What a pathetic embarrassment you are. As taxpayers we should ask for a refund.
Replying to @premhid
So Camel, are you telling me that as an advocate you can't read legislation? I suppose you see the 143 race-based laws as mere suggestions?

Another IDF atrocity. Israel denies responsibility. Ministers believe the denials. Media give them credibility. By the time Israel's denial is exposed as fake the world has moved on. In this column for MEE I expose Israel's Standard Operating Procedure: middleeasteye.net/opinion/on…

The BBC finally gains access to Gaza. The result is this truly appalling bit of reporting. Up top Lucy Williamson observes "The Gaza of maps and memories is gone, replaced by a monochrome landscape of rubble stretching flat and still for 180 degreesm from Beit Hanoun on one side to Gaza City on the other." Apparently this is the result of a disembodied entity called "the war." She says the Israelis have returned continuously to this part of Gaza "as Hamas regrouped around its strongholds in the area." To most observers it has been blindingly obvious for more than a year that Israeli is engaged in a systematic campaign to render Gaza unliveable. In Beit Hanoun there is scarcely a stone standing on top of another stone. She really thinks this is all a by-product of fighting against Hamas? No less than 10 of the paragraphs in the piece are "Israel says" paragraphs - almost none of them challenged. "The ceasefire has faltered twice already", she says, which is an interesting way of describing the fact the Israelis are allowing in only a fraction of the aid they agreed to and have killed 240 Palestinians. "Military censorship laws in Israel mean that military personnel were shown our material before publication. The BBC maintained editorial control of this report at all times," she says. If that's true, it just makes it all the worse. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c0rp…
