China has recorded 50 operational satellites in orbit for the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) by the end of 2024, with a total of 88 BeiDou meteorological observation stations currently contributing to global weather forecasting, according to the latest industry report.
Chinese archaeologists have uncovered 27 relic sites in Beilin District of Xi'an, northwest China's Shaanxi Province, with 25 of these sites confirmed to date back to the Sui (581-618) and Tang (618-907) dynasties, the Shaanxi Academy of Archaeology announced on Thursday. The relic sites were identified within the ruins of the Tongyifang, a residential compound for high-ranking officials and dignitaries in the renowned Chang'an City during the Sui and Tang dynasties. These findings provide crucial new information for understanding the layout and evolution of residential quarters in the ancient city of Chang'an, with unearthed ceramics offering new materials for research on social life during the Sui and Tang dynasties.

The orbiter of China's Mars mission Tianwen-1 has successfully observed an interstellar object, coded 3I/ATLAS, using its high-resolution camera, according to the China National Space Administration (CNSA). During the observation, the spacecraft was about 30 million kilometers from 3I/ATLAS, making it one of the closest observations by a probe of this interstellar object. The observation represents an important extended mission for Tianwen-1 and serves as a valuable technical test for China's Tianwen-2 mission, which was launched in May to collect samples from a near-Earth asteroid and explore a main-belt comet.

The China-developed world’s first pontoon two-seat electric seaplane, the RX1E-S, carried out an ecological patrol on Tuesday over the water areas of Yanqing District in Beijing and the Guanting Reservoir in north China’s Hebei Province. Featuring a maximum cruising speed of 157 km/h and an endurance of 1.5 hours, the aircraft can reduce the patrol time for water areas in Yanqing from two days to just five minutes and shorten the inspection of the 238-sqkm reservoir to 20 minutes.
China has called for the broader application of AI in its health sector over the coming years, with intelligent diagnosis and treatment assistance set to be universal in basic terms across the country's primary-level medical institutions by 2030, including community and village clinics, according to a document released on Tuesday.

Chinese scientists have completed the ground tests of an inflatable, reconfigurable module for a novel space manufacturing platform. The breakthrough module has an innovative design that is intended for launch in a tightly folded configuration and inflates once in orbit to form a large, stable workspace. Test images have revealed that the expanded module forms a cylindrical structure over 2 meters in diameter, making it an ideal candidate for future space-based manufacturing, including areas such as biopharmaceuticals, 3D printing and the production of novel materials.

China's Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) achieves breakthroughs in key domestic technologies, data release: - Successfully employed 4,000 domestically produced specialized astronomical broadband optical fibers in its focal plane to link with spectrographs, enabling the simultaneous observation of 4,000 celestial objects -- a cornerstone of its large-scale spectroscopic survey capabilities. - Upgraded its fiber-positioning system from an open-loop to a closed-loop detection system, improving the system's average efficiency by approximately 20%. - Achieved the domestic development of displacement actuators, which serve as core components of LAMOST's innovative active optics system. - Released a total of 28.07 million spectra and 11.59 million sets of stellar parameters as of October, retaining its status as the world's leading producer of astronomical data. - More than 1,800 users from 300 institutions around the world are making use of the data. These users have downloaded roughly 170,000 GB of data, and the data-release portal has been accessed 3.73 million times.
