‘China lifted hundreds of millions of people out of poverty.’ Wrong. China abandoned socialist economy. And the Chinese people lifted ourselves out of poverty. What did the state do? They kept people in poverty for decades through their fanatical socialist experiments, which they had to abandon due to abject and glaring failures. I don’t remember anyone ‘lifting’ anyone out of poverty, in my family, my friends’ families, in countrysides, cities. The use of the word ‘lifting’ is a propagandistic language that gives agency and credit to the state, and treats the people of China as patients to an external cure. It also makes the PRC sound like a welfare state. Nothing is further from the truth. So please part your way with the language of ‘lifting’. It is a false claim and frankly insulting to everyone in China over past decades who worked hard to improve the livelihood of their own and their families. There are plenty of much better words here.
"lifted" is no exaggeration when compared to virtually all developing countries. Give me an example of success?

Most of those were pawns of the US in its cold war era or right after to undermine the regional influence of Russia. And they're not all that well. Look at the state of the Japanese economy since the US crashed their economy with the plaza accord.

How do you think China grew since Deng went to America in 1979?

Every country you list here got huge aid from America or other western nations, interesting, so capitalism is when charity?

Japan and virtually all developed countries are out as they resorted to deliberate genocides and stealing of resources from natives. South Korea is fine now, but UN forces killed about 3m North Koreans and Chinese followed by strictest sanctions on it. Singapore? It is a city state. Great LQY though. Taiwan? It was under Marshall law until 1980s. Poland? Without it being next to EU countries who are willing to help it, it would be still very poor. Chile is hardly a good example with Pinochet, an ultra rightwing junta and millions disappeared. Why don't you mention dire poverty in India (which is closest to China in many sense) and most African States in the rich and large continent of Africa?

And didn't their respective govts "lift" their people? Japanese govt literally pulled scores of millions out of poverty in 1950s and 60s

Mao grew China's economy MUCH faster than Japan, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Poland, Chile. Many time faster.

Countries do well when they are acting to stem the spread of communism next door, or if they’re a unique trade hub city state. 🤔

Japan came out as an imperialist and genocidal power to extract wealth. South Korea had US aid. It was a shithole during Cold War. Singapore had Western capital flow. Taiwan had US aid & billionaires. Poland is EU biggest gold digger. Chile had massive wealth inequality.

All these nations had a significant state/private sector nexus. Poland for example has had huge EU investment. China also has had a significant state/private sector nexus.

If you put Poland and Chile in the same category as Japan then you don't have any knowledge but a strong desire in believing.

This isn't even true. Poland is a a shithole. Chile has extreme rural poverty.

😂 these were all 'lifted out of poverty' by someone else pretty much, China is the only country whose main customers actively try to destroy it. I mean Poland? Come on, I don't know if you don't know about the EU or just choose to ignore it.

That it took China only 36 years after Deng Xiaoping launched his "reform and opening up" policy to become the world's largest economy in PPP terms is an example of industrial policy not failing badly.

In every country you cite, the state was involved in guaranteeing the capital that drove their success or actually had state programs in place to enable development. Housing and Development Board in Singapore. Protectionist policy in Japan (AMIL 1936), low interest loans, MITI.

These historical illiterates seem to think China was rich before the PRC was established 🤣 Maybe their grandparents were rich landlords and they just assume that was representative of the whole country 🤷🏻‍♂️
