An unusual visitor in the sky above our Lincolnshire garden today. Unmistakably a Hobby Hawk (first I've seen). Probably attracted to the large number of Swifts we've got.
Depressing that Reform did so well in Lincolnshire. Happy however that our division voted for our independent councillor @OvertonMarianne

It's been a veritable airshow here this week... Monday an @RAFBBMF Spitfire, today the @rafredarrows practicing over @RAFWaddington and a Chinook heading somewhere.

Another amazing night for UK Aurora hunters! Several arcs visible from Lincolnshire, even directly above and to the south.
And just to cap off an amazing night, pretty sure I just saw a fireball - SSE from Brant Broughton, Lincolnshire.

Quick #eclipse stack (bit patchy due to clouds). Still over-the-moon (pun intended) I got to see it! Next, totality?
We flew Ryanair from Stansted to Rovaniemi - they get a lot of flack but in this case we’ve no complaints. Painless, hassle-free direct flights. On time and everyone very friendly in-flight and at both airports. Border control also very friendly and great with the kids.
Don’t be afraid to drive - all roads are amazingly-well maintained & even though snow-covered, driving is fine. It gives the flexibility needed to explore. I drove up to Paatsjoki Bridge (near the 🇷🇺 border) one night for aurora. Tiny road, but drivable even after lots of snow.
We used AirBnB and booked activities (Santa, Huskies, Reindeer, Snowmobiles for both kids and adults) directly with Northern Lights Village. Considerably cheaper than using a tour company. Everyone at NLV was friendly, knowledgeable and was great with kids.
Saariselkä is a lovey place. Small, quiet, but has all the activities and amenities a family needs for a week. Some nice bonuses: free snow tubes at the ski resort and firewood at the aurora cabin (though practice lighting a fire with frozen damp wood before going!)
Back from our adventure in Lapland. Wonderful time had thought unusually cold (down to around -30C some days). Some thoughts🧵
