It's like adding a minigun with infinite ammo to The Last of Us, which is always strapped to your character, & then telling people: "Well, you don't have to use it!"
As if new players won't be, constantly, pulling it out & mowing down enemies, ruining the intended experience.
Sprinting through these long hallways destroys the pacing, tension and mystery. it takes away a moment for the player’s imagination to wonder and guess about the world you’re in.
