Lucy Powell - Labour MP for Manchester Central since 2012.
This will take a while so please grab a cuppa.☕️
In 1997, Lucy worked at Labour HQ for Tony Blair’s election campaign. In 2010, she organised Ed Miliband’s successful leadership bid. In 2015, Lucy was part of the new
@LabourTogether consortium funded by Trevor Chinn and run by Morgan McSweeney with the principal aim of removing Jeremy Corbyn as leader.
Lucy was in the thick of the plots, coups and leadership bids aimed at ending Corbyn’s leadership. In the film Oh Jeremy Corbyn: The Big Lie there is a scene showing Lucy on the night of the 2017 election clearly surprised that Corbyn had done well.
The Right Honourable Lucy Powell is now the Leader of the House of Commons and Lord President of the Council.
Unfortunately, Lucy’s language doesn’t always reflect her exalted position. She dismissed concern for the grooming gangs scandal when she said, “‘Oh, we want to blow that little trumpet now, do we? Let’s get that dogwhistle out, shall we?’”
Lucy’s comments have been described as ‘silly,’ ‘discredited’ and ‘abhorrent.’
Much of the donations and funding that Lucy has received over the years remains elusive. However, the following donations and perks have been disclosed:

With her £166,358 salary, expenses (£42,410.65+ claimed in the last year), generous donations, shareholdings, rental income, allowances, freebies and perks, Lucy is doing very nicely indeed at Westminster.
On 9th July 2025, Lucy voted for the Universal Credit/PIP cuts that will result in further hardship down the line for people who are disabled and vulnerable. Lucy also voted to scrap the
#WinterFuelPayment to pensioners 🥶 and voted to retain the two child benefit cap which ‘significantly contributes to child poverty’ in the UK.
