Amazing trend that developing countries will use solar, wind, and batteries instead of coal as they grow because now renewable energy is more abundant, reliable, and cheaper
India, in July, achieved 5 years early its 2030 goal of 50% clean generation capacity and trumpeted doing so. Most national leaders in the world are all-in on clean energy. Wind, solar & battery storage are skyrocketing globally. Why? Low cost! National support!!

The new apartments with the high rents and nice amenities are what gets all the attention. But behind the scenes, each one of those "luxury" apartments is reducing demand for existing apartments, suppressing rent increases and reducing displacement.
762 Apartments in *central* Austin under $1,000/month. Hell yea.

We are in dire need for more privately funded labs like @arcinstitute to counteract the anti-science administration
I'm pretty pissed off about the fact that a bunch of Americans will probably have to die fo cancer because of insane antivax/MAGA politics. noahpinion.blog/p/did-rfk-ju…

"10x the EBITDA" vibes tonight... I don't think @clipse was rapping for the coding community on this tape, but I love building to this album lol

Would be really fun to sit in a board meeting with each mag 7 company and hear their plans with AI. Like actual thoughts and feelings, not what they say in public
Thought from the recent @Noahpinion blog post, and after listening to @rodriscoll and @jasonlk on 20VC with @HarryStebbings this past week: From Noah's post: "The Magnificent 7 tech firms have collectively spent a record $102.5 billion on capex in their most recent quarters, nearly all from Meta, Alphabet (Google), Microsoft and Amazon. (Apple, Nvidia and Tesla together contributed a mere $6.7 billion.)…" It's interesting how Apple is being considered an AI loser because they're not investing heavily in the technology, which is a fair characterization imo. However, by still having the app store, they could be major beneficiaries of the AI boom through the massive increase in apps, without having to increase cap ex. It won't be as much revenue as the cloud providers, obviously, and the recent Epic ruling will hurt, but it will be interesting to see how Apple's app store revenues increase without them having to do anything about it. Compared to the crown Meta, Google, Microsoft, and Amazon are going after; however, Apple's App Store revenue increases will likely be fairly insignificant. I still hope they just build a car already... We need a Xiaomi.

It is so obvious for the democrats to adopt an abundance agenda. They could dominate future elections with this mandate if this sad state of the world is what they’re competing against. @DKThomp @ezraklein
MAGA has no culture beyond online rage. There is no revival of Christianity or patriotism. MAGA is hurting manufacturing, canceling infrastructure, blocking energy, gutting research, and slowing the economy. This is a movement that builds NOTHING. noahpinion.blog/p/maga-doesn…
20VC has been on fire recently. The shows with @jasonlk and @rodriscoll are always great, and the recent run of guests with @profgalloway, @vladtenev, @ScottWu46, and @echen has been incredible. @HarryStebbings has built the gold standard of vc/startup podcasts.
“No, I definitely wouldn’t sell for $30BN or even $100BN. I already have everything I want. We are profitable. I have complete control of our destiny and all the resources I want to do anything I want.” @zoink @scottbelsky @emerywells @tjparker @henri_stern how do you advise founders on when to sell?

Go Steelers, but I absolutely love it when a leader can make a speech with great delivery. Not just what he says, but how he says it. You feel the emotion, you feel the importance, and you feel the connection to his teammates. A+
Looking back at Hurts speech to the team the night before Super Bowl LIX😤💚🏆🦅

The new @HarryStebbings @profgalloway 20VC episode was one of the best podcasts I’ve listened to all year. I can tell Harry was not expecting that conversation at all but kept diving in and it was so good. Scott is such a deep thinker and I really appreciate all he shared and how open he is with his own life to give good advice. Really appreciate Harry and Scott for sharing this with the world

I bet that in a generation or two, it will be illegal not to use self-driving cars, as they will have by then become far and away much safer than human driving. 50 years from now they'll think we were crazy for sitting in a metal box going 100mph with a bunch of strangers around us doing the same.

Insane that DeepMind is doing this. DeepMind seems like it could be a $100b+ pharma business in the future

I agree. I wish creating jobs was celebrated a lot more in entrepreneurship. Both by founders and by government
I wrote about this in the Odd Lots newsletter this week. Entrepreneurs used to brag about being a "job creator" but now that's not cool anymore.

They’re 10x better than they were just 6 months ago. Very few mistakes if ever and can one shot hundreds of lines of code. It’s unbelievable
Coding agents have crossed a chasm Somewhere in the last few months, something fundamental shifted for me with autonomous AI coding agents. They’ve gone from a “hey this is pretty neat” curiosity to something I genuinely can’t imagine working without. Not in a hand-wavy, hype-cycle way, but in a very concrete “this is changing how I ship software” way.

Another unicorn for Pittsburgh!
A new unicorn in robotics! 🦄 @geckorobotics from Pittsburgh has reached a $1.25 billion valuation after raising $125 million in new funding. They build robots and AI software to inspect and improve important infrastructure like power plants, factories, and military systems. That's a great example of a modern robotics company that doesn’t JUST build robots. 📊 A positive sign for the entire robotics market.
