The ‘Prospect of Whitby’ - A Home For Pirates, Scoundrels and Scallywags (57
#Wapping Wall,
#London,
#E1W) 🏴☠️🦜🍻
We were given exclusive access to the upstairs of one of
#London's oldest and most famous pubs. The Prospect of Whitby is both a museum and a relic to Great
#Britain. This was once one of the most dangerous places one could drink whichever side of the law you sat. A range of interesting people, both historic and contemporary, have drank within its walls. The Prospect, like a few other pubs, claims to be the oldest (Thames) Riverside pub in
#London. We could have spoken about this pub and its history for hours, but narrowed it down to just under half an hour. Wapping wasn't only dangerous in the golden age of piracy, but it was a vital part of London's shipping trade during the lead up and the height of the British empire. These streets and the warehouses that are now expensive apartments were once the grotty and tough places that the dockers and light men of London endured day in, day out. We would like to thank the staff for facilitating us as it always makes things more special for us and, therefore, the viewer.
