I've noticed opportunists attempting to score political points by misrepresenting a 2018 post where I expressed frustration with President Buhari's approach to security and his administration's failure to communicate effectively with citizens about plans, progress, and vision regarding security, the economy, and human capital development. Yes, I called for accountability, even impeachment, (rather than join yes men to watch body language) given the deteriorating security situation. I also acknowledged President Trump's position at the time, which was receptive and constructive rather than adversarial toward Nigeria. He wasn't fabricating genocide narratives or threatening condescending invasion as we see today. He simply expressed concern about the killings, particularly of Christians, and stated America wouldn't allow such violence to continue unchecked. My specific frustration then centered on the government's failure to address security matters in a substantive manner. The Presidency had essentially gone silent on public engagement, leaving me in a difficult position advocating for police reform while simultaneously monitoring the scandalous, unjust dismissal of 2,000 Nigeria Immigration Service officers. I believed then, as I do now, that our government often responds more readily to external pressure than to internal engagement from patriotic, principled citizens. The encouraging development was that things changed that same year. We made significant progress: the affected immigration officers mostly regained their jobs through our collaboration with @nigimmigration. The @PoliceNG Trust Fund was passed by the National Assembly in 2019 with prompt presidential assent, followed by the Police Act 2020 in September, before any protests. Security also improved through successful kinetic and non-kinetic operations across troubled regions. This transformation made me a believer in President Buhari's administration. Yes, mistakes were made, but the lesson was clear: consistency matters, and leaders do evolve when shown committed examples of nation-building. Today's situation differs fundamentally from 2018. The current narrative has been weaponized to sell a fabricated 'Christian genocide' agenda, with demeaning rhetoric portraying Nigeria as a 'disgraced country', all based on disinformation from the proscribed IPOB terrorist group, now amplified by U.S. lobbyists. No one is denying the indiscriminate killings of citizens and fellow humans, but navigating this with a destabilizing agenda that will eliminate the possibility of peaceful religious co-existence in the country should be condemned by all. This administration is addressing the issues though not as strategically as expected (thus deserving the knocks currently being dished out). I have admonished them on their shortcomings and the needed adjustments are in motion. No patriot throws their country under the bus to ride the mob's wave toward democratic collapse. That will never be my story. I have always stood by Nigeria and will not waver now. 🚔
