Its not cool relying on China for sooo much of our clean tech. However.. if we need to stop.. we still own all the solar panels and EVs. When we needed to cut Russian gas supply, it almost destroyed the EU. Every country should avoid at being beholden to fossil fuel imports.

No, Elon Musk didn’t just “get” $1 trillion. He was granted options to buy Tesla stock at today’s prices if and when he meets certain performance milestones. This is like giving someone the option to buy flour, sugar and eggs from you and saying you have them a cake. It might be a cake, but first they have to buy the ingredients and actually take the time to bake it. And there’s no guarantee the cake won’t taste like absolute shit and be worthless.

NEWS: The Australian government announced this week that electricity customers in three states will get free electricity for up to three hours per day starting in July 2026 thanks to the massive amount of solar that has been installed in recent years. “Now we’re at the level where we can share more of that power with more Australians,” Chris Bowen, minister for climate change and energy, said. The Solar Sharer plan will be available to everyone in New South Wales, South Australia, and in the southeastern part of Queensland to start; more regions will be added later. Households won’t need to have solar on their rooftops to qualify. The plan will help those who live in apartments or don’t have a suitable rooftop to benefit from their neighbors’ panels.

In the UK you can be sentenced for up to 10 years for carrying (not even using just carrying) pepper spray That’s right, in a country where people are being stabbed randomly walking their dog or on the train You can be jailed for trying to protect yourself It’s not right

In response to Hurricane Melissa, the Starlink team has been working to provide vital connectivity to support relief and recovery efforts. Over 800 kits have been donated to local governments and humanitarian organizations, including over 600 in Jamaica, and free service has been enabled for customers in impacted areas. During the last 24 hours, the Starlink team distributed kits to organizations that are working to restore connectivity in major hospitals, distributing food, water, sanitation supplies, basic household items, and children activity kits. Direct to Cell capabilities were also activated via local partners, enabling mobile connectivity through apps and messaging for over 250,000 people in impacted areas. The Starlink team will continue to support efforts on the ground and provide connectivity when it matters most.

Wake up! ⏰️ Global Sea Surface Temperatures are likely even higher than the Eemian warm period, 125,000 years ago, when global sea levels were 5-10 meters higher than today!
Replying to @LeonSimons8
"The global mean annual values [during the Eemian] were ∼0.5°C warmer than they were 150 years ago and indistinguishable from the 1995–2014 mean" Global Sea Surface Temperatures were about another 0.5°C higher in 2024:

👻BOO‼️ I can't think of anything scarier than this. The greenhouse gases we have added to the atmosphere now force over a billion Hiroshima bombs worth of heat into the Earth system every year.

China currently has 339 gigawatts of wind and solar capacity under construction — roughly two-thirds of the world’s total. China is leading the clean energy revolution. That’s not a subjective statement; it’s a fact.

China’s internal combustion car sales peaked in 2017 as electric vehicles took off— Electric cars have become incredibly popular in China. In 2020, one in eighteen new cars sold was electric. By 2024, this had increased to one in two. This growth has pushed down sales of internal combustion engine (ICE) cars, which run mostly on petrol. As you can see in the chart, sales of ICE cars peaked in 2017 and have declined since. The world reached peak ICE car sales just one year later. The displacement of petrol cars with electric ones is vital in decarbonizing transport. The rise of electric vehicles in China means the IEA expects oil demand to peak earlier than previously projected. Here, “electric cars” include fully battery-electric ones and plug-in hybrids. In China, 56% of them were fully battery-electric. (This Data Insight was written by @_HannahRitchie.)
