We should remember, whilst waxing lyrical about Oxford, that it was here that Bloody Mary tried to snuff out the Reformation (a triumph of liberty) by burning Cranmer, Latimer & Ridley. Many Oxford academics & students must have been amongst the crowd.

Latimer is quoted as saying: “Play the man, Master Ridley; we shall this day light such a candle, by God's grace, in England, as I trust shall never be put out.” Reform and all of us must ensure the flame of liberty is never snuffed out.
