🏰 Concentration of castles in Europe.

Castile literally comes from “land of castles”, but apparently you see an empty Spain, also it’s a fact that just by going by road, every half hour you cross a castle. This is bcs in France any noble house or country house is considered a castle and in Spain not. 🇫🇷🇪🇸

Castilla is a former kingdom, now a region of spain. Castellano was their dialect, it became what's known today as "Spanish". You're right about the etymology. I'm from France AND this region. I can assure you that France has a higher castle density than Spain generally speaking.

Probably yes, due among other things to the fact that France was more fragmented in different states and principalities (which gives rise to everyone having their castles). But that difference figure so exaggerated is due to what was explained above

According to this website there are only 10k castles in Spain, while there are 45k in France, because as you said, they're considered "forts" I wonder if Spain and Portugal have to start considering their manor houses and quintas as castles too xn--castillosdeespaa-lub.es/…

Es que si nos ponemos a considerar a cualquier pazo, palacio o casa de campo como “castillo”, nosotros también sumaríamos un montón

And that’s why you call a 19th century mansion “chateau” because it has a fence

A real stonework castle on top of a mountain and with many more centuries of antiquity than the 1880’s mansions that you call “chateau”
Not every half hour but every 10 minutes

Por generalizar, que en lo profundo de la Meseta literal cada 10 minutos por ciertas zonas cruzas un castillo diferente
Yes, we have fortified castles and pleasure castles. C'est la vie

The one on the left is a castle, the one on the right is a palace. They are not the same things
France has 45 000 château of which 13 000 are castles, forts, and Spain has 2500.

Even if you only take castle with fortification in France, there are 13000 castles compare to 2500 in Spain…

Castile has an exaggerated name, as is always the case in Spain
