Apple finally admitting its AI lags hard and shelling out big for Google’s beast mode brain to resurrect Siri proves swallowing pride accelerates real leaps in everyday magic.

I'm sure there are many reasons. But foremost among them are OpenAI's hardware ambitions (fueled by poaching current and former Apple designers/LoveFrom collab) and OpenAI's strategy to control the meta-app store layer, bypassing Apple's walled garden. I think Apple is more comfortable competing with Google.

Not a fan of Gemini TBH It needs better training, it hallucinates, makes stuff up. Pretty sure @grok is the most honest…Grok please tell us which AI is the most truthful.
What the actual F*CK Gemini?!? This was at 10:32 PM. My daughter’s boyfriend was looking up the news on Charlie Kirk.

Glad Apple is leveling up Siri with Google's Gemini. right call given performance tests and cost and sticking with their privacy controls

I am excited for Siri to not be terrible. That’ll be nice.

Really? They already pay @Google billions. Everyone saw that coming.

OpenAI doesn’t have the expertise of integrating ai into a phone like Google does. It would be too slow to build that integration from scratch with OAI. That’s why this makes sense.

That’s a major shift in strategy. Apple choosing Google over OpenAI shows how fast alliances are changing in the AI landscape.

In other words, Apple is flailing around desperately to find an external A.I. that actually works.

Apple doesn’t innovate They’ll continue to buy companies and partner until the end of their existence

Open A. I. Shouldn't be considered a reliable partner. Open AI itself doesn't think it survives without government support.

It's fascinating how Apple has always been about control.. yet they're willing to rely on Google for such a critical piece of their ecosystem. It makes me wonder.. is this more about keeping pace with AI advancements.. or is it acknowledging that they can't develop something comparable in-house right now? Either way.. that $1B annual price tag shows how serious they are about this partnership.

In 90s, Apple was dying, Steve ran to Microsoft for cash. Couldn’t build maps or search? Begged Google. Misfired AI? Paid for OpenAI, but that flopped, so now they’re back at Google’s door. One of the only tech giants without its own real AI and they will regret this one bad

Google is far ahead in seriousness and in agentic uses. GPT-5 will struggle responding to a CSV that needs analysis, Gemini will power through it, Claude too. I do think OpenAI is struggling as a company.
