Every session, you take your child dutifully, with discipline, because that’s what love and responsibility mean. Life revolves around them, their smile, their survival. And then, one day, govt employees at that very blood transfusion centre decides not to do the most basic part of their job, screening the blood to be transfused for HIV. Your child receives HIV-positive blood. Now, your child is HIV positive. So are four more Thalassemia kids who were allegedly transfused at the same centre. One act of sheer negligence. One careless, heartless lapse, and five innocent families are shattered. Everything you built, every ounce of love, every sacrifice, destroyed because one person couldn’t be bothered to do the duty they were paid for. This happened at Sadar Hospital, Chaibasa, Jharkhand. Five children. All HIV positive now. The CM has announced ₹2 lakh compensation. Value of life. Lol.

Some ppl might be offended but the bitter truth is you can build houses for them, fill their plates with free ration, give them jobs, clothes, and blankets yet many will sell what you give, drink away what you offer or waste it in gabbling, and still call themselves poor. अत्यंत विनम्र निवेदन जिनको पटाखे बजाने थे वे बजा चुके हैं। जिनको पटाखे नहीं बजाने थे, वे पटाखे बजाने वालों को बजा चुके हैं। अब इस बकवास को बंद कर दीजिए.. हमें बहुत अच्छी तरह पता है कि दिवाली पर किसी युग में पटाखे नहीं बजाए जाते थे। उस वक्त पटाखे होते ही नहीं थे। कुछ और किया जाता होगा। लोग बैठकर भजन गाया करते होंगे। या कोई और एक्टिविटी की जाती होगी। हमें कुछ पता नहीं है। लेकिन जब हम बच्चे थे, तब दिवाली पर पटाखे बजाए जाते थे। उन दिनों लोगों के पास ज्यादा पैसा नहीं हुआ करता था। हमें जेब खर्च भी न के बराबर मिलता था और दिवाली की खर्ची भी बहुत मामूली सी मिलती थी। इसलिए छोटे-छोटे पटाखे बजाए जाते थे। थोड़े से। हम दस पैसे की टिकड़ी की डिब्बी भी लाया करते थे। हालांकि मन कभी नहीं भरता था। इच्छा यही रहती थी कि कुछ ज्यादा पैसा हो तो कुछ ज्यादा पटाखे लाए जाएं, कुछ बड़े पटाखे लाऐ जाएं और देर रात तक बजाएं। मैं जिन दिनों की बात कर रहा हूं, उन दिनों ध्रुव राठी तो पैदा भी नहीं हुआ था और ध्रुव राठी टाइप के लोग पटाखों पर ज्ञान भी नहीं दिया करते थे। कोई जरूरत भी नहीं थी और कोई सामान भी नहीं था उन दिनों ज्ञान देने का। आज लोगों के पास भरपूर पैसा है। लोग हर जगह खर्च कर रहे हैं। कारें खरीदने में, एसी खरीदने में, मोटरसाइकिलें खरीदने में और पता नहीं क्या क्या खरीद रहे हैं जो अंततः प्रदूषण ही फैलाने वाले हैं और वह भी रोज-रोज। जब इतना पैसा होगा तो लोग पटाखे खरीदेंगे भी और चलाएंगे भी। कोई यह नहीं समझे कि किसी एक व्यक्ति या कुछ व्यक्तियों के समूह के किसी ज्ञान के कारण पटाखे चलाए जा रहे हैं। पिछले दिनों भारत ने पाकिस्तान पर क्रिकेट मैच में जीत दर्ज की थी तब भी लोगों ने खूब पटाखे चलाए थे। लेकिन उस वक्त दिवाली नहीं थी। किसी ने ज्ञान नहीं दिया। थोड़े दिनों में नया साल भी आने वाला है। तब भी खूब पटाखे चलाए जाएंगे लेकिन तब दिवाली नहीं होगी। और यह दुनियाभर में होगा। और कोई ज्ञान नहीं देगा। अब इस बकवास को बंद कर दीजिए... क्योंकि आपको जितना ज्ञान देना था आप दे चुके हैं और जिनको ज्ञान लेना था वह ले चुके हैं। अति हर चीज की खराब होती है। ज्यादा ज्ञान का भी अपच हो जाता है। और जब ज्ञान थोथा हो और उसकी भी अति हो जाए तो फिर रहने ही दें। अत्यंत विनम्र निवेदन है अब ज्ञान देने की बजाय अपने-अपने काम पर लग जाएं। सब सुख से जीएं और दूसरों को भी सुखपूर्वक ज़ीने दें। @arvindchotia

Deepawali is the largest, and perhaps the only, pan-India festival that truly brings people back home, as those away from family make their way to native towns. It deserves a full week of national holidays. If needed, revoke holidays like Gandhi Jayanti and few more, that don’t resonate with the masses and give Deepawali the recognition it deserves. Other countries set a precedent too, with long holidays for festivals like Chinese New Year, Christmas in West, and Japan’s Golden Week.

We will never get away from traffic jams if we allow construction around highways. Highways have to be highways and not dhaba business centers. For eg: in my village, Gadkari saab constructed a by-pass and what was once agri land suddenly became goldmine for those ppl. Suddenly everyone started building dhabas, puncture shops, shops, sabji mandi, houses and what not around the by-pass and today the road looks like town road. Villagers sold off "highway touch" land for crores and went away. Result? Same traffic nonsense, accidents and all the associated issues. Crores got wasted. Highways should not have any constraints or construction around. This valuation game has to end. Access controlled roads so that businesses around don't cause issues is the way forward. Ppl used to make good money via farming too but now they are more focused on starting misal houses and Mutton Rassa centers instead of farming. Crores made via land sale are in the bank and man is now "udyojak" and running taxpayers money left right and center. Plus they build everything right touching the highway which I am sure is 100% illegal. NHAI morons are the most corrupt. The entire organisation needs to be shut down. All of it. Finish it. Close it. One pothole on the highway and you need to penalize the road contractor and engineer so heavily that his 7 generations should pay that debt. These guys cause loss of lives and nobody bothers. Nobody. Contractors need to be black-listed. NHAI work should be given only to those guys who have market repute like L&T etc and not to some shady company of a politician who knows nothing about road construction. Gadkaris failure has been on audit front and this political nexus front. He is building roads and approving hell of a lot of things but his work is undone by corrupt auditors and contractors. What they put under the ground is unknown. Toll is nothing but organised crime. Now this annual pass thing has come which means maintence will go even below. 2029 elections the biggest issue is going to be bad roads and take that in writing for me. Govt has time even today and as a well wisher I am placing this before them. As someone who drives thousands of kms monthly I have given this a deep thought. Come to this NH-48 road, the concrete part is so sick. So bad. So shameful that nobody in the right frame of mind should have allowed it to pass through. But it has.
