I'm not taking a stance on whether inflammation drives cancer, but I will say it's very true that GLP-1 drugs reduce inflammation—a lot! Tirzepatide at any dose greatly reduced levels of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein and interleukin-6, two important inflammation markers:

Chronic inflammation is a driver of cancer. Glp1s help mitigate that fr

I have actually had people thank me for getting them on this stuff precisely because they had inflammation issues that these drugs *immediately* solved for them. Here's an example I've posted before: this man's back pain was cured!
Over the last few months, I've received hundreds of stories about people's lives being changed by GLP-1RAs. This recent one took me aback. A subscriber had their back pain wiped out by retatrutide, enabling a return to healthy habits, and more!

Tweeting about this topic might've brought this into my feed:
How do GLP-1 medicines interact with immune cells to reduce #inflammation? From T cells, to the brain, #weightloss and much more, there is no simple unifying one size fits all pathway. "Sometimes we find as many as six impossible things before breakfast" jci.org/articles/view/194751

Is this directly from the GLP-1s? Or is it the result of calorie deficit?

There is a direct anti-inflammatory effect and an indirect weight loss-based effect. From this chart, you can see that the direct effect dominates though, since different doses return similar anti-inflammatory effects despite large differences in weight loss.

I’ve heard anti inflammatories reduce muscle growth. Seems reasonable that this would too?

it is known that inflammation is facilitating tumor initiation and progression

Tirzepetide got me to a 22 BMI, after DECADES of obesity. I'm forever grateful to whomever discovered it.

My husband has neuropathy in his feet from a stem cell transplant. He could not feel his feet. He now says he can feel them more and more while using Ozempic. Side effect bonus.

Anything that drives growth hormones will drive cancers receptive to those, like IGF-1 & breast and prostate. When we speak in generalities on cancer we lose the mark. It’s a complex disorder with no one size fits all approach. Each type has its weaknesses. Being unhealthy and obese is probably horrible for surviving any type, though.

Is it the drug or the weight loss which is no longer fueling inflammation?

Being severely overweight leads to all sorts of inflammation. I bet people who diet properly exercise regularly have lower inflammation as well.

Question: have any studies been done on whether GLP-1 agonists could potentially be used as treatments for inflammatory autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis, lupus, ulcerative colitis, etcetera?

Weight loss increases circulating Arachidonic acid, just like statin use. Both also reduce inflammation. The chronic inflammation observed in obesity is driven by an Arachidonic acid deficiency.

Giving into weakness will not solve our problems and these drugs are just that. Hippocrates and Socrates already figured it out, good food and excercise.

is this better than traditional anti-inflammatories? I don't need the weight loss but could use some something better that ibuprofen with inflammation
