One guy is responsible for largest transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich in US history.
One guy is responsible for the deaths of millions across the world.
And one guy is the Pope.
When Obamacare was being passed & there was a possibility it might reduce access to costly treatments with low chance of survival, the entire right was shrieking "death panels." Now Trump proposes a plan that would reduce access far more drastically and it's "hurry up and die"
How many months do those drugs buy, on average?
Most people wouldn’t bankrupt themselves or their families to buy a few extra months of (lousy) life. They’d make sure their kids or grandkids did better.
But as a society, we’re making that choice without even thinking about it.

Whenever a pundit says these were ‘emergency’ subsidies meant to expire, you can safely ignore the rest of their commentary.
They were set to lapse for the same reason the 2017 Trump tax cuts were: To make budget math look a better and stick to reconciliation rules…
Democrats are fighting so hard not just because the Covid-era 'emergency' subsidies are scheduled to expire, but because at the same time Obamacare premium prices, on their own, are increasing substantially. Some Democrats have even admitted the failure of the Affordable Care Act to make health coverage more affordable. Allowing the 'emergency' subsidies to expire--which every single Democrat voted to do back in 2022--at the same time rates are skyrocketing would be a serious blow to public confidence in the ACA. Remember, the ACA is the premier Democratic policy achievement of the last half-century. They will do anything to keep it afloat, even as it consumes more and more taxpayer money.
Privatized Medicare (run by private insurance companies) has an administrative overhead (including profits) at least 6-fold higher than traditional public Medicare’s overhead. This is just religion.
The reason government programs are so inefficient is that, unlike a commercial company, the feedback loop for improvement is broken, because they have a state-mandated monopoly and can’t go out of business if customers are unhappy.
No matter how bad the service is at your DMV (sorry to pick on DMVs), you still have to use your DMV, because it’s a monopoly.
Trump on SNAP: "Our country has to remain very liquid because problems, catastrophes, wars -- it could be anything. We have to remain liquid. We can't give everything away."
with the individual mandate already neutered, moving subsidies into HSAs means a lot of the youngest and healthiest folks will opt out of insurance entirely, which in turn will put massive pressure on the remaining risk pool and drive up premiums even further
Just another case study in my theory that Republicans have the easiest job in politics: they run on the idea that government doesn’t work, get elected, and then prove it by making government work even worse. They’re literally making it harder to pay your taxes.
WASHINGTON (AP) — IRS Direct File, the electronic system for filing tax returns for free, will not be offered next year, the Trump administration has confirmed.
Republicans should definitely have their healthcare plan written by a guy who was CEO of a healthcare company that received 14 felony convictions and a $1.7 billion fine for defrauding Medicare.

Trump has spent 10 months sending the message that the govt does what he wants. Demolishing the East Wing was just an exclamation mark on that. So it shouldn't be surprising that Rs can't offload blame for the shutdown. If Trump wants the government open, why isn't it open?
“While some people see a 'new Marjorie,' on healthcare costs, the reality is that the Big Ugly Bill passed with ONE vote. Hers. This crisis is all because she didn't do the right thing when she could!”

Since before it was even passed, Republicans have hacked away little by little at the ACA. It’s been death by a thousand cuts. If they think it sucks, they have themselves to blame.
BREAKING: As many as 140 Head Start programs which serve 65,000 preschool aged children have NOT RECEIVED federal funding as of November 1st due to the shutdown.
20 programs have partially or fully closed. This is affecting almost 10,000 children.
That annual mammogram is only free bc the ACA forced insurers to cover them in full with no copayments so women would actually do them.
It’s saved thousands of moms, sisters, friends,
cousins, daughters and co workers this past decade
For those keeping track at home, this make 18 politicians convicted of corruption charges now pardoned by President Trump.

"When I picked up my granddaughter from the federal agents, she had a dirty diaper, a bruise on her face, and was developing a rash. She was exhausted and cried… My heart aches knowing this could happen to others, to my kids, or even me, despite being U.S. citizens.”
.@POTUS’ recommendation that we stop sending tens of billions of dollars under Obamacare to money sucking insurance companies and instead send that money directly to the people so they can buy better healthcare is simply brilliant.
President Obama promised that families’ health care costs would go down by $2500. Instead, premiums have increased over 100%. The big winner of Obamacare since 2010 are large health insurance companies. Their stocks have risen, in some cases over 1000%, because they get most of the money from these subsidies.
Mr. President, I am completely onboard with your recommendation.
This is, unsurprisingly, nonsensical. Is he suggesting eliminating health insurance and giving people a few thousand dollars instead? And then when they get a cancer diagnosis they just go bankrupt?
He is so unserious. That's why we are shut down and Americans know it.
