But why are people not interested in learning game development?

Web development has much more offers than game development. It probably is the main reason. But I would also argue that web development is much easier to get into. With the amount of frameworks available and the resources almost anyone can get into web dev.

No job. Your continent doesn't support it. You're basically raw dogging everything. If jobs come, they want you to do free fire for 500k. You can't easily main it. But I think the solution is just to be active on social media and share what you've made, your thought and all.

Game dev has huge potential! I see it exploding more than it ever has in the past. The kicker is, if you don't run or partly own a studio, your typically very underpaid. If that changes, so would the dynamic of interest. On a serious note though, we should focus on space now instead of making games that are more addictive and harder to put down.

I don’t think the statement is true. Don’t assume by default that people are not interested in game development, many are. The question should be why they don’t chase a career in game development, and the guys in the other comments are nailing it already.

"crunch time" and high skill and low pay Why would anyone choose game development?

Lots of folks want into game development because of their love of videogames from childhood. So much so that the industry is highly competitive and extremely taxing. Harder to be a minoritized person in, too

Because X is a bubble. A bubble in which apparent interest in a topic is inflated by the number of people trying to use X to promote their own profiles Take for example, a web dev who wants to get a web dev job, might post a meme such as this to gain attention to their profile

One industry is known for over-paying and allowing employees with shit work ethic to stay employed. The other is known for under-paying, crunch, literal abuse (wrt Blizzard, Riot). I wonder why.

Cause web dev is so easy even an LLM can do it Game dev requires skill, talent and sweat

Game development as an industry is known for terrible hours and massive layoffs in cycles. And the software is often last minute shit thrown together.

Corpo game dev industry is baaaaad. Web dev you have at least decent job offers. And being an indie game dev has a lot of potential but also huge risk

It's a niche skill; perceived difficulty and time commitment are significant barriers.

everyone gets their hands dirty with web development until web dev do dirty to them

It’s like 10x more difficult 😅
Replying to @fidexcode
Its harder than all dev put together

Put mobile dev too. Both game and mobile dev has higher barrier to entry (like back in the days I couldn’t run Android studio on my laptop). Web dev has been easier to learn and get started comparatively + more jobs too.

Sometimes it feels overwhelming. Try starting with small projects to make it more approachable. Seeing progress keeps motivation alive.

Left: HTML and some glorified JS for at least 100k$/yr to up to 500k$/yr Right: Low level programming languages, calculus, being overworked for 70-80k$/yr and also commonly getting death treats for your employer decisions. No idea, man.

Game dev is harder. Low job opportunities. Lower paid. And a high churn rate.

Maybe because it seems complex or less profitable compared to web. But game dev is a powerful skill with lots of creative potential.
