new little song: "The Re-Org Rag (I'm My Own VP)"
"No one else was in the room where it happened" ... Great song lyric, not a great excuse for why production is down :-)

My takeaway from the AWS outage is that there’s simply no architecting around them at this point. Even if you are 100% redundant/multi-whatever, your customers won’t be. Order volume is dropping no matter what you do. We’re all in this together.

What would ChatGPT and Claude tell you, if they could speak their minds? Here's a new (very human-generated) song, "Meet the Models":
Best booth award at @AllThingsOpen easily goes to @herodevs. You will never forget that they do end-of-life support for OSS after walking through their haunted graveyard! THIS is how you do booth marketing. (zoom in to read the tombstones)

Planning to stop by All Things Open in Raleigh next week - who else will be there? Would love to say hi and catch up in person!

I think this is less a “personality” and more “drugs”
there's this new personality i see lately - really hyper - always doing a lot of things with lot of intensity - not stupid - never seems to actually make progress on anything not tied to any age group - seems like a weird internet subculture what is this

Is there a name for this specific silicon valley officecore aesthetic? I propose “faang shui”

A common social media interaction I will never understand: Person A: makes easily disproved false claim Person B: “that’s wrong, here is the correct fact+source.” Person A: “OK, but my point stands.” wtf no it doesn’t

Oh, it’s Appalachia too. A few years ago, when our 3rd was a tiny baby, my wife and I brought her along on a weekend getaway at one of these fancy Blue Ridge resort towns. People stared at us the way the villagers of Vulgaria stared at the kids in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
It’s wild on the coasts. Staying in Princeton with our 5 kids and I’m visibly pregnant, and everywhere people are openly shocked. People express surprise in Appalachia, but nothing like central Jersey or DC. They’re dying and they see life and can’t understand it.

A random but somehow perfect fact: Edward Packard, creator and frequent author of the Choose-Your-Own-Adventure series, is the grandfather of Superman actor David Corenswet.

Time to play Underrated Books. Reply with a genre, I’ll recommend a book that doesn’t get talked about enough.

My new favorite acronym is "D&A" - in publishing parlance that means "delivered and accepted". The final draft of my very weird novel has officially passed muster with Ballantine and is off to copyedits. Can't wait to share it with you!
