no the shining's approach is quite different and the fact that it's not really told from jack's perspective also makes it work more. but it did remind me of the shining in that they're both characters who are authors suffering from writer's block
whole time i felt like i had already watched this, because it was so reminiscent of lars von trier's melancholia. and i'm not sure what exactly it is that movie does that makes dunst's character still feel so human and easy to connect to, where this doesn't have that.
shitty theatre experience aside, i'm pretty lukewarm on this. ramsay forgoes us seeing any sense of normality in lawrence's character and just drops us neck deep in her breakdown and i think it hurts the film.
nova. but i saw bugonia at the lido and they also masked it at 1.85:1. i think the only way to ensure it's masked properly is to specifically ask them to beforehand, but it'll make you look like a dick
i think i'm just done watching smaller movies like this in the cinema. movie theaters in melbourne just don't know how to mask movies anymore and the audience is disruptive. just sucks. i'd rather wait until i can torrent it in HD which will only be after like two weeks anyway
