Zcash seems to be getting a lot of attention. The reason I’m not getting super excited is because functionality with equivalent properties can today be implemented natively on general purpose L1s.
Also, outside of these recent narratives on X (which is mostly just bag holders telling stories), I don’t think ppl in general really demand privacy solutions. There are many ways to hide things that work well today, and I don’t think going on blockchain is the most natural fit for that.
I think the main focus for blockchains should be on solving the problems of transparency, composability, and disintermediation. Because this is what is really in need of solving, and cannot be solved properly wihout it.
Privacy solutions will also be a part of it no doubt, but IMO more as a supplementary thing for niche use cases rather than something that’s front and center.
