Current state of crypto - nothing scales and everyone is happy. Well not everyone. I know that folks at @Mysten_Labs are hard at work to solve this once and for all. In this thread I will share my high level thoughts on Sui's design and why it's so special. 👇

Zcash seems to be getting a lot of attention. The reason I’m not getting super excited is because functionality with equivalent properties can today be implemented natively on general purpose L1s. Also, outside of these recent narratives on X (which is mostly just bag holders telling stories), I don’t think ppl in general really demand privacy solutions. There are many ways to hide things that work well today, and I don’t think going on blockchain is the most natural fit for that. I think the main focus for blockchains should be on solving the problems of transparency, composability, and disintermediation. Because this is what is really in need of solving, and cannot be solved properly wihout it. Privacy solutions will also be a part of it no doubt, but IMO more as a supplementary thing for niche use cases rather than something that’s front and center.

I think ppl who say because Mysten built deepbook, this and that, it's cannibalising its own ecosystem are looking at it wrong. First of all, I'd rather have core infra built by a storng team that's well aligned rather than a bunch of participants who don't have long term alignment and have it be fractioned and incompatible. And secondly, at least you can freely compete with them. ICYDK this isn't possible in web2. Because in web2, the platform you're building on can decide on a whim to change TOS or reach and monetization algos and then you're finished (see Zynga and many others). IMO a lot of ppl here in web3 don't appreciate how big of an opportunity this is. Especially for small teams to capture large value.

I don’t think most people realise how bad web2 APIs are because that’s the only thing we’ve ever known.

Not to mention I had to build a custom `regenerate_lockfiles.py` script that will: - delete lockfile - build - restore [env] from deleted lockfile for each one of the 30 packages that we have bottom up in order to ensure consistency of lockfiles...

I start from github with every dep but they always end up in vendor over time because it won't build if I don't fix it manually.

It's great that our Move dependencies are now open source but I still have to vendor them because of manifest files being misconfigured, toolchain putting stuff into lockfiles that shouldn't be there (e.g. Bridge) for no good reason, and having to modify dependencies for tests.

Things I'm most excited about coming to Sui for a while now: - GraphQL RPC and the new data interfaces - Crypto Guard I always feel like I get excited about things most people don’t, so I just felt like sharing this.

How much can you earn LP-ing through Kai? We care a lot about showing actual data on Kai, but unlike SAV, for LP positions it’s not possible to have a single aggregate metric that will tell you how much you will make because each position is unique and will depend on the setup. With the leaderboard we solve 2 problems: - give an overview of how much other positions are earning in real time - allow you to create new positions with the same setup for easier onboarding P.S. the vast majority of positions on Kai are profitable.

I personally don't frown at protocols that list it, I think it can make sense with sensible parameters, I just think with Kai we should be even more conservative since it's a different system, and it turned out to be wise in this case. The bigger issue is that there isn't really a lot of things to list since the markets are so thin on all but a few of these coins ATM. So it's like we have to go through "beginnings of defi" problems and all the lessons here again even though we kinda know them.
