HAPPENING NOW: Portland Police Commander Franz Schoening testifies that federal officers on Oct. 18 barraged protesters with crowd control munitions — not because of any violence but because another federal officer accidentally shot tear gas onto the roof of the ICE facility.

Oct 29, 2025 · 6:05 PM UTC

SCHOENING's testimony, at a federal trial on the legality of Trump's guard deployment in Portland, describes federal officails as repeatedly using "indiscriminate" force against protesters despite no signs of threat from protesters.

SCHOENING: "The types and amounts of force being used by federal officers is disproportionate to the level of criminal conduct or violence we’re seeing down there." He says actions of fed officers have stoked, rather than quelled, unrest.

Unbelievable, they gassed protesters because someone misfired onto a roof. That’s not crowd control, in my opinion. That’s reckless abuse of power. The fact that federal officers acted without provocation and then tried to justify it shows exactly why accountability in law enforcement is non-negotiable. Mistakes happen, but cover-ups and overreactions shouldn’t… be acceptable.

Do we know for certain that the federal officer that shot tear gas onto the roof did so “accidentally”? Provocation and false flags are standard operating procedure for the feds.

While the J6 crowd was peaceful, corrupt DC cops fired 100s of flash bangs, tear gas and rubber bullets at a peaceful crowd to incite the riot that then occurred to stop the proof of election fraud being read in the joint house session.

It wasn’t an accident, it was planned justification for something they wanted to do

Yeah, we've seen the videos showing the relationship that Portland law enforcement has with Antifa. It's disturbing.

At least the Keystone Cops had good choreography. These evil Gestapo-ICE clowns are so ridiculously untrained, unqualified and dangerous they must be disbanded.
Replying to @kyledcheney
ICE has to be reined in. They've become thugs and people, understandably, hate them.

Is perjury acceptable now? Will there be any consequences for a Police Commander perjuring himself to support an agenda that harms American citizens?

Why would you believe anything Portland officials claim? Video evidence has repeatedly proven them to be liars

This is what you get without proper vetting and training. Ridiculous levels of incompetence and protesters paying the price.

Well there is the hours and hours of video from the ground that would seem to disprove his overall narrative. I don't know about this incident he is testifying about, however his overall framing is false.

No joke, cops do this kind of thing all the time. So does the military... with live rounds and actual ordinance. These folks are kinda incompetent. Just FYI. And they used to have enough of a hold over the media so that y'all didn't mention it when it happened.

They don’t seem to know the difference between crowd control and crowd intimidation. I don’t know what the hierarchy of tactics is, but firing shots/munitions must come close on the heels of tear gas.

I would like to know if the PPB and sheriff’s office taking action to clear the protest camp outside of ICE in Portland was part of any deal to avoid deployment of National Guard troops?
