In the era of Donald Trump, fake news and outright lies on the public stage the BBC is a precious national asset which (although not perfect.. no institution is!) holds power to account with standards far higher than in most of the newspaper industry I grew up in.
🔴 Donald Trump’s White House has accused the BBC of “purposeful dishonesty” amid a row over bias at the broadcaster.

Terrific column by @robertshrimsley - this is essentially a Milibandite government, but one that is so in denial about it that it can’t even appeal properly to the coalition *for Milibandism*: ft.com/content/00a57168-d04d…
Don't forget these two. Both ex-GB News, now holding down top jobs in the Corporation. McAndrew is responsible for editorial direction of BBC TV & Radio News programmes. The BBC doesn't hide their promotion of Reform. It's moved openly to the right, with the right now in charge.
Michael Prescott and Sir Robbie Gibb both bailed out of journalism years ago, and enjoy lucrative careers in corporate PR. And now they are the arbiters of BBC editorial standards. Go figure prospectmagazine.co.uk/ideas…
ANEMONE leads this week's culture tips in @TheNewWorldmag - a glorious return by Daniel Day-Lewis and a seriously accomplished directorial debut by his son Ronan

Great fun talking to Richard Thaler for the FT's Economics show -
I ask hom how nudge theory might help Donald Trump understand that tariffs are bad economics (and a lot else)

Lucky that the BBC wasn’t policing facial expressions for signs of personal views when Jeremy Paxman was at Newsnight. Either that or it just has different rules for female presenters.
Very much looking forward to hearing @eggsbened sing as part of Britten’s War Requiem in a beautifully lit, packed Southwark Cathedral ahead of Remembrance Sunday tomorrow.
📻 On @BBCr4today this morning I discussed BBC bias on gender ideology - Justin Webb sanctioned for clarifying trans women are male while the BBC misleads viewers by pretending male killers are female - and why as a friend of the BBC I want them to sort it out - listen here!
You don’t need to read the letter to see the level of capture on gender/sex at BBC News - it’s plain to see in i. its style guide, which means male killers are inaccurately portrayed as women for example ii. Aggregate decisions of the ECU that clearly breach impartiality in my view.
Of course that’s not the sum total of the BBC’s output. But that an organisation shows such clear signs of ideological capture on a contested issue - and its failure to respond to justified complaints- should be extremely concerning to anyone who cares shout the BBC’s future. It shows the BBC is as vulnerable to groupthink as the next institution and that any governance and editorial safeguards have been inadequate to maintain impartiality on a key and contested societal issue. Very serious.
