The reaction to women celebrating the @ForWomenScot legal victory only serves as a reminder that while the law is the law our culture remains dead-set against women who say no My final column for the Observer. (Read on for what's next...)

Men who don’t understand why ideological capture on the sex and gender issue is an important societal phenomenon, and think it’s just whiny women having a moan about something niche: take note. We’re entering an era where your failures might cost you your job. Quite rightly too.

Tim Davie didn’t manage to get to grip with a lack of impartiality on certain contested issues with BBC News during his tenure as Director General, so this is the right move I think. The BBC needs a DG who understands and can confront these challenges head-on.
SCOOP: Tim Davie is about to announce his resignation as Director General of the BBC, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Tune into Talk Radio, GB News, or certain commentators on X, and you’d be forgiven for thinking the UK is an experiment in multiculturalism gone horribly wrong ✏️ @soniasodha thenewworld.co.uk/sonia-sodh…

“The BBC site still describes trans-women sex offenders or murderers as “women”, though these are clearly crimes of male violence”. The nub.
Martine Croxall’s eye-roll spoke for a nation. It is time for the BBC to follow its own impartiality rules. My ⁦@thetimes⁩ column. thetimes.com/article/e67bb3c…

You don’t need to read the letter to see the level of capture on gender/sex at BBC News - it’s plain to see in i. its style guide, which means male killers are inaccurately portrayed as women for example ii. Aggregate decisions of the ECU that clearly breach impartiality in my view. Of course that’s not the sum total of the BBC’s output. But that an organisation shows such clear signs of ideological capture on a contested issue - and its failure to respond to justified complaints- should be extremely concerning to anyone who cares shout the BBC’s future. It shows the BBC is as vulnerable to groupthink as the next institution and that any governance and editorial safeguards have been inadequate to maintain impartiality on a key and contested societal issue. Very serious.

📻 On @BBCr4today this morning I discussed BBC bias on gender ideology - Justin Webb sanctioned for clarifying trans women are male while the BBC misleads viewers by pretending male killers are female - and why as a friend of the BBC I want them to sort it out - listen here!
It really isn't just figures on the right concerned about BBC lack of impartiality in this area
As one who proudly spent nearly his whole career at the BBC, this piece is depressingly spot on….

And read this excellent column for more. It’s not just people on the right who worry about the BBC’s obvious lack of impartiality - its disrespect for and bias against women opposed to men self-identifying into female-only spaces is of huge concern to feminists on the left too.

Now listened to Anatomy of a Cancellation re Kate Clancy. Thought it a fair & fascinating treatment of issues around cancellation & publishing. Key takeaway: if everyone had the wisdom, nuance & grace of Kate’s former student who featured the world would be a much nicer place!
