NEW: Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-N.J.) spoke to President Trump on the phone a week ago to talk about a yearlong ACA credit extension Trump asked him: “Can’t we do something better?” Van Drew replied, “Mr. President, we don’t have the time.” Trump’s lack of urgency in extending the ACA subsidies and his interest in a major health care overhaul — as he has now mentioned in a private meeting with Democratic leaders as well as frequently with Republicans — is complicating GOP leaders’ efforts to address expiring health insurance subsidies that affect 20 million Americans without fully repealing Obamacare More w/ @AlexGangitano @Reporter_Mia @MyahWard politi.co/3WTDQlS via @politico

"his interest in a major health care overhaul" - he's so interested he's never come up with an actual plan

Trump is the one who can end the shut down. The GOP won’t act without his permission. Adults, all, who have abdicated their authority to Trump. The nation does not deserve what the GOP has done!

Leavitt: At this moment in time, the ballroom is really the president's main priority.

He's only had 10 years to come up with something better, saying as he's been campaigning on how garbage the ACA is in that time. But we're stuck with...

I can’t stand reading an article that just OOZES disgusting hyper partisan rhetoric. Why nobody takes you mfs seriously anymore. You’ll be out of a job in 10 years. Quarter of the way through and it’s just pure propaganda. Pure DNC propaganda. It’s annoying.

Van Drew better worry. His district relies heavily on subsidized coverage: 23% on Medicaid and ~40% of kids. Cutting ACA subsidies will hit NJ-02 disproportionately harder than the rest of NJ.

You sound like just the sort of dupe that previously took the bait on Trump saying he was making IVF free.

Obamacare was NEVER affordable for those forces into it who did not qualify for subsidies. It was a sham! Showed his lack of payroll and employment experience. We should have lowered Medicare availability to 21 yrs on a needs assessment = much easier

But he has time to DESTROY THE WHITE HOUSE. He has time to give $20 BILLION to “illegals” in Argentina, while Americans are SUFFERING. He has time to make sure the Epstein files aren’t release.

Someone has to ask @SpeakerJohnson about this at his news conference this morning! Something has to give soon to reopen the govt!

Hes green promising something way better than the ACA for years.

If they don't do something now, we'll be in the same place one year from now. They need to start over. Scrap the entire system. It is not affordable. It's especially not affordable if you don't subsidize the health plans.

If the GOP cared about healthcare, they’d have fixed in the Big Beautiful Big, they didn’t. They could have removed federal subsidies from employers insurance (100 billion + per year) or the 35 billion subsidies to the oil industry. They like tax cuts while the deficit grows

Major overhaul? Dude has proposed nothing. Don't carry water for him
I don’t WANT the ACA subsidies extended. I want the ACA GONE. So let the subsidies expire, and force everyone to the table to work on something that doesn’t annihilate the middle class rate/tax payers.
During his first term a great, fabulous healthcare was coming in 2 weeks multiple times. Expect nothing.

Hell no to the extension of ACA. Open the government and then work on a permanent solution to the healthcare premium increases.
That’s because Trump is tired of just continuing to tend to the band aid & instead wants to start working on actually healing the wound that is the ACA The same thing is happening in healthcare that’s happening w/ tuitions. They’ll keep raising the prices as the govt subsidizes

Even Van Drew, pretty much a massive idiot, can see what needs to be done in the near term. Only the moron in the White House can’t see it.

Or the Republicans can vote to override Trump’s veto. Why are they terrified of an incredibly weak, unpopular President?

Headline should read "Democrats are barreling . . . " It's their law that expires and it's their shutdown that is causing havoc.

Whatever. Just do the Continuing Resolution and then talk about it. WTF is wrong with our Senators?

Kicking the can down the road is no solution.
Fact Check: Dems wrote the credits into the law WITH the sunset deadline baked in! They knew the time was coming and did nothing about it! It’s NOT the president’s job to do their job. They deserve all the blame!

you Dem assholes got us into this mess. Not President Trumps priority. Every SANE person knew Obamacare was a scam. a Single-payer scam. you lying media pushed it.
