"you'll understand when you're older" is complete nonsense. if something is true, it should be possible *right now* to convince you it's true, and saying otherwise is what someone desperate says because they have nothing left in their bag of tricks

sometimes i look at those surplus auctions where some university is selling off 2013 macbooks for $15 each and wonder...
i don't know that i'd advise students today to do this if they can avoid it, but i think going through college with a laptop salvaged from the junk closet definitely built some character
