In 1914, Lenin was “arrested by mistake” in Nowy Targ, then suddenly released with the help of powerful friends.
Austrian Reichsrat deputy Dr. Zygmunt Marek personally vouched for him, writing: “Lenin Ulyanov is personally known to me, he is reliable and trustworthy.”
Shortly after, Lenin received an official receipt for 200 kronen upon release notarized and signed by the district commissioner.
These are not the actions of a persecuted revolutionary but actions of a man under protection and supervision of the Austro-Hungarian establishment long before 1917.
