I know there's a lot of Twitter chatter about the ACA, so here are some facts if interested:
1. Did more people get health insurance as a result of the ACA?
Yes, about 20-25 million people
2. Did the ACA lower healthcare spending growth?
It probably did in the Medicare program
It likely didn't in the private insurance market
For those wanting to repeal the ACA, I got questions:
- What's the plan for the 60-80 million non-elderly adults and kids with declinable pre-existing conditions?
That is
What's the plan for the kid with cancer who, before the ACA, couldn't get insurance because his dad lost his job?
That was a reality and we can't go back to that
Ultimately, we need a serious discussion about our wildly expensive healthcare system
Driven by market consolidation (lack of competition), new technologies, and administrative bloat
And real solutions to both lower that cost and ensure people remain covered
