Did Twitter Blue tweet just cost Eli Lilly $LLY billions? Yes.
We regret to inform you that we will not be giving away insulin, a publicly funded invention that was given away by its creator to be given away to people so they donโ€™t die. x.com/LillyPad/status/159081โ€ฆ
Eli Lilly stock isn't just tanking because of a satirical Tweet on Musk's hellscape, it's tanking because millions of people are asking why we have to pay for insulin, when it was made to be free. That's why other insulin stocks are falling too. Happy Disability Awareness Month

Investors fear culture caught up with them. More people know insulin's discovery was funded with our money. Insulin's cheaper everywhere else. Insulin's inventors sold the patent for a dollar to a university because they wanted everyone to afford it. vox.com/2019/4/3/18293950/whโ€ฆ
Even the Wall Street Journal, not exactly the champion of people over profit, publicly dings Eli Lilly for its immoral price gouging of insulin. wsj.com/articles/whats-real-โ€ฆ

If you look up the top producers of insulin, more evidence that investors know how vulnerable the insulin grift is. Any news is bad news, because now we're all paying attention.
Following this and many other parodies of corporations and odious political figures, Elon Musk rushed to turn off his $8 Twitter Blue sign ups and appears to have reintroduced yet ANOTHER badge, further destroying the value of the blue checkmark.

UPDATEโ€”Just learned that Eli Lilly executives are raging and furious at losing $20 billion in market cap from this stunt with @TwitterBlue. Itโ€™s too bad they donโ€™t see their own damn insulin price gouging as the actual problem. Karma @LillyPad, karma.

Congrats to the insulin advocates who have been fighting for decades for this victory. And to the homie @snmrrw who forced it into the news with his satirical Eli Lilly post, the most effective troll in history.

It's bloody disgraceful that you have to pay for insulin in the usa

It tanked them all because if one company that makes insulin starts giving it away for free then nobody else can sell it. The stock market doesnโ€™t give a fuck about anything other than that.

You say that as if insulin just continues to magically create itself for free.

Excellent tweet. Itโ€™s also diabetes awareness month too.
So by inadvertently allowing attention to be focused on the disgraceful price of insulin in the US, Muskโ€™s $8 verification scheme may help ordinary people? The law of unintended consequences.

I don't think ANYTHING is ever "free". However, the price of insulin in the U.S. is ridiculous and the government should be allowed to break the insulin monopoly.

When I was diagnosed w T1 in โ€˜88, I could buy spare vials (xtra when traveling), full price, no insurance, for $40. Now (1) can only get my prescription, no extra vials, and (2) it would cost $379. I go through 3+ vials a month.

The original inventors of insulin sold the patent to the government for $1.

Along with being life-saving, it's smart for states and country to have a healthy population... less fiscal costs in healthcare. Gop too busy punishing those who have disease w/ no support.

A very strange county, the USA. And do we all pay more tax than the USA? Nope. Are we happier, mostly. An addiction to an addiction to an addiction creates enormous problems, and the buck stops with the American people and thatโ€™s very sad.

It shouldn't be free, it costs money to produce it, but the price should be fair, as they should with all medicines.

No, that's not why the stock price is falling. The stock market is wildly amoral.

If that is the result of this prank. Elon getting sued into bankruptcy and insulin gougers getting hurt I'm okay with that. Didn't the democrats try to reduce the cost recently and get blocked by republicans?

Just for knowing, how much money can a person with diabetes spend on insulin, in the US? Really I don't know, in Spain the insulin is free (OK, actually not free but included in the public health system).

I really wish people who have absolutely no idea about diabetes and insulin would stop talking about diabetes and insulin. I wish they would educate themselves about the biologics laws and how they need to be changed and how new interchangeable biosimilars are not enough.

Why do Americans put up with this? They like socialism when itโ€™s comes to the military but hate it when to comes to healthcare. Weird.

Close! It's tanking because free insulin is TERRIBLE for investors! Funny how so often it seems that whats good for the people is bad for the investor. Well thankfully the ones with all the money dont have a overrepresented voice in policy shaping. Cause that'd be a nightmare

Walmart sells Novolin 70/30 for $24.97 a vial. That's about 90% of what name brand costs. Just ask for Relion insulin.

Sure. It's tanking NOW, and only NOW b/c lots of people who aren't individual investors have been saying for years that insulin should be free or affordable or something.
