We had the honour of hearing Ayelet speak about her beloved brother, Hadar Goldin, a young lieutenant in the @IDF at our hostage vigil on Friday. He was a poet, a graphic designer and an artist and had recently become engaged to his girlfriend, Edna Sarusi. On August 1, 2014, during Operation Protective Edge, a humanitarian ceasefire had been declared. But with their usual disregard for rules, agreements and deals, Hamas terrorists emerged from a tunnel, ambushing Hadar and his fellow soldiers. Two were killed instantly. Hadar was shot and taken into the tunnel. In the days that followed, the army found evidence with his blood-stained uniform among it, confirming that Hadar had been killed. Yet his body was never returned. For eleven long years, his family has lived with the pain of no body to bury, no grave to visit, no place to mourn, only an ‘aching absence’. Now, after all these years of waiting, praying and fighting for his return, Hadar has finally been brought home.
