When people say they’re underpaid and start listing many other issues, I tend to hear one clear message behind it all: they think the $ is too small.

Core devs deserve better rewards. EF’s structure doesn’t offer a shared upside bigger than ETH itself. Maybe EF needs a new kind of incentive.
Like in many organizations, comp will be the major part of the EF budget in 2026. Some of the major grants go to the infrastructure / core teams and then are spent on comp too. So, in the end, Protocol R&D, testing, security, and tooling are the vast majority of what the EF will spend money on.

This was in my todo list but I decided to wait for a LLM or agent that is capable of all these experiences so I don’t have to learn it. Make sense?

Agents make sense only when we want to expose services that use internal tools, private data, or proprietary models. Otherwise, AI — being the better coder — should generate agents just-in-time, inside the conversation. For public tools and data, most agents add little value and will soon deprecate. What we need instead are tool registries and data-source labels — not endless agent frameworks. AI should help us write less code, not demanding more from us.

Taiko Based rollup L2 operates as a true public good now, completely decoupled from its engineering team. This is real on-chain governance with world-class leadership, and what credible neutrality looks like. Bullish on ownerless infrastructure 🥁🥁🥁
Taiko DAO just appointed 3 Board Directors: Joy Lam, Professor Felix Oberholzer-Gee, Professor Wen Yonggang and an Advisor, CPA Ren Jang. These seasoned, highly accomplished leaders will supercharge our Security Council & community as binding on-chain governance goes LIVE at dao.taiko.xyz. Another step toward an ownerless, neutral L2 truly owned by its users.

Taiko mainnet started preconf-ing blocks about an hour ago, after fixing some minor issues and now our based rollup seem fully functional, with 2-3 second block time. @VitalikButerin @drakefjustin More to come in the next 6 months.
🎉 Congrats to the @SuccinctLabs! We’ve been using Succinct for months to prove some of Taiko’s blocks. With the launch of the Succinct Network, we’re excited to further reduce proving costs and move closer to production-ready proposer-prover-separation.
The Succinct Prover Network is live on mainnet. Today, we PROVE them wrong.

Next up for Taiko: - Fully permissionless preconfirmations - Profit-focused protocol improvements - High-performance node (Reth) - 100% ZK - Stronger token utility & DAO When these land (~1 year), @taikoxyz won’t just be better - it’ll shine.
Mainnet preconfirmation is a major engineering milestone for @taikoxyz. It enables our based rollup to offer much better user UX. We believe taiko is on the right track to scale Ethereum - good UX, permissionless, and properly governed.

After a lengthy period of testing on the Taiko Hekla testnet, we are excited to announce that Based Preconfirmations are coming soon to the Taiko Alethia Mainnet! In preparation for this upgrade, we strongly recommend that you upgrade your node software to the listed versions by August 11th UTC. If you fail to upgrade, you will not be able follow the chain in real time as blocks are preconfed, but you will still be able to sync once they are proposed to the L1. This upgrade requires some configuration changes, which will be outlined in this guide on the docs site: - docs.taiko.xyz/guides/node-o… With this upgrade, it will unfortunately mean that community proposers will no longer be able to arbitrarily propose blocks. Since we are starting in starting in the Whitelisted Preconfirmations stage, only our partnered whitelisted preconfirmers will be able to propose. However, if you wish to continue operating a L2 node and stay connected to the chain, please update to the following software versions. You may continue to run a prover, but will only be able to prove unassigned blocks: please have PROVE_UNASSIGNED_BLOCKS=true set in your .env if you plan to do so. If you previously ran a prover, your previous prover config will still function. Mandatory update for Taiko Alethia Node operators: - taiko-geth v1.17.0 - taiko-alethia-client v1.9.0 - simple-taiko-node v1.18.0 Read more about the Based Preconfirmations stages here: - docs.taiko.xyz/taiko-alethia…

Happy birthday, Ethereum.

Actually it will be 2s initially not 250ms.
What does a user typically see on a Based Preconf UX? 1. User sends a transaction 2. Preconfer replies with a promise that the transaction is included. 2.a. If promise is broken, preconfer is slashed. 3. User interface is updated instantly 4. Transaction confirmed on-chain.

Welcome @gusgonzalezs to the Taiko family. I believe we can build something really cool together. 🥁🥁🥁
Personal update during EthCC: After +2.5 amazing years, yesterday was my last day at @OpenZeppelin . It’s been quite a journey— where I’ve had the privilege to work with some of the smartest people I’ve met and to lead some of our most important projects. It was precisely during that time, that I fell in love with based rollups and the idea of scaling Ethereum closer to its true values. I’m happy to share that I’m joining @taikoxyz as their director of engineering to lead the engineering team and bring Taiko—and based rollups in general—to the next level. Our main focus is shipping preconfirmations, but I’m incredibly bullish about what this team can deliver. I’ve had the chance to collaborate with them and meet in person over the past few months, and let me tell you—they’re top-notch.

Taiko #preconfirmation is now live on Hekla! This phase uses a whitelist-based approach, but you’ll already notice the UX boost with ~2s block times. Another milestone delivered.
TBH I didn’t expect 7917 to be included this quickly. This shows Ethereum core devs understand the importance of preconfirmations and can move fast when needed. Feeling more bullish and pro-Ethereum than ever.
