It's remarkable how unliked Jira is. Hard to come up with another piece of software that seems so universally panned by people who have to use it, yet has clearly proven popular. I guess there's Salesforce, but... So what is it about Jira that so many don't like?

I like software that I can use for a while and feel like I've achieved mastery of it - that I understand every feature it has and how to use those features I got there with GitHub Issues after a week or two. I used Jira for years and never felt like I even came close

I wonder if part of the problem here is that many JIRA features are restricted to admin users, and most of us developers don't get to use admin accounts so a lot of the functionality remains mysteriously hidden and frustrating

Trying to attain mastery of every feature in Jira is like trying to mount a ground invasion of Russia in winter. There is always more territory for the enemy to retreat into.
