There was no “peace deal” between Hitler and Stalin.
What actually happened was Hitler’s cooperation with Britain, France, and Italy prior any non-aggression pacts with USSR.
The Munich Agreement (1938) was far worse than any non-aggression pact. It wasn’t just a diplomatic formality, it was an outright betrayal. Britain and France handed Hitler an entire sovereign nation, Czechoslovakia, without its consent. And not just any country, but the industrial and arms-manufacturing hub of Europe.
Meanwhile, Hitler had already signed a series of non-aggression pacts and diplomatic agreements with numerous other nations long before even speaking to the USSR:
Let’s list them 🧵👇
Non-Aggression and Peace Agreements Signed With Nazi Germany (Before the USSR)
German–Polish Non-Aggression Pact
🔶 Signed: January 26, 1934
🔶 Fact: While the USSR proposed a joint defense pact, Poland preferred peace with Hitler.
Anglo-German Naval Agreement
🔶 Signed: June 18, 1935
🔶 Fact: Britain gave Germany the green light to rebuild its navy, violating the Treaty of Versailles. Czechoslovakia and France were completely bypassed.
Franco-German Declaration of Non-Aggression
🔶 Signed: December 6, 1938
🔶 Context: Signed right after France helped give away Czechoslovakia to Hitler at Munich.
German–Danish Non-Aggression Pact
🔶 Signed: May 31, 1939
🔶 Reality: Germany invaded Denmark less than a year later.
German–Lithuanian Agreement (Post-Memel Ultimatum)
🔶 Signed: March 22, 1939
🔶 Context: Germany seized Memel under threat, then signed a “peace” pact.
German–Latvian Non-Aggression Pact
🔶 Signed: June 7, 1939
German–Estonian Non-Aggression Pact
🔶 Signed: June 7, 1939
Rome–Berlin Axis
🔶 Established: 1936
🔶 Formalized as the Pact of Steel: May 22, 1939
🔶 Fact: A full military alliance between Hitler and Mussolini.
Anti-Comintern Pact (Germany–Japan)
🔶 Signed: November 25, 1936
🔶 Italy joined in 1937
🔶 Purpose: Strategic and ideological alliance against the USSR.
Germany–United States (de facto cooperation)
🔶 No official pact, but:
🔶 Major U.S. corporations, IBM, Ford, GM, Standard Oil, worked with Nazi Germany.
🔶 U.S. banks like Chase and J.P. Morgan operated in Nazi-controlled Europe.
🔶 Fact: Economic cooperation continued well into WWII.

Then came the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact
Came after the USSR spent months trying to form an anti-Hitler alliance with Britain and France, efforts that were ignored. Surrounded and isolated, the USSR did what every other European country had already done: it signed a non-aggression pact to delay war.
Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact
🔶 Signed: August 23, 1939
🔶 Fact: A non-aggression pact, not a military alliance.
🔶 Signed only after Britain and France refused Soviet proposals for a collective anti-Nazi front.
So if you want to talk about “Soviet cooperation with Hitler”…
Then let’s talk about all the countries that cooperated with him first:
🔶 Poland
🔶 France
🔶 Britain
🔶 Denmark
🔶 Lithuania
🔶 Latvia
🔶 Estonia
🔶 Italy
🔶 Japan
🔶 And the United States (via deep corporate and financial ties)
Yet only the Soviet pact is called a “deal with the devil”?
That’s not historical analysis. That’s selective Western framing, based on the assumption that no one knows the full timeline. But if you insist on bringing up this idea, then by all means, make sure to mention all the other countries that signed friendship or non-aggression agreements with Hitler as well.
Until then it’s just a narrative construction.
Don’t fall for it. Know the facts. Stay sharp.
P.S.
This is exactly what Putin pointed out: ⬇️
While Britain and France handed Hitler a weapons-producing country, and Poland openly coordinated with him, the USSR tried to build an anti-Hitler coalition.
Rina, if you ever get time, could you please address the propaganda line going around relatively recently in the Hitler adoring crowd that it was actually Stalin who started war on Germany, that he was set to attack Germany & Hitler had no choice but to march in the USSR. Thanks
Facts are facts. Instead of relying on sensationalized Wikis or pop-history books, let's focus on what's actually backed by hard evidence. “The USSR did what every other European country had already done: it signed a non-aggression pact to delay war.”
