I have updated my NetOps manifesto for 2021. Now I just need to nail it to some doors.
I was very impressed by @POLARconference! The first executive con I’ve attended that wasn’t all trash talks and vendor scams. Very, very much the opposite! Highly recommend.
Had a great time in Quebec City attending @POLARconference and speaking at @hackfest_ca last week. Saw folks including @Evil_Mog @J0hnnyXm4s @Randominterrupt @lintile @Mr_Minion @pathetiq and many more. The event is over Halloween next year, can’t wait to see the shenanigans.

I would like to remind everyone that @troutman and Cheryl basically caused the events on Monday with the last line of their slide @hackfest_ca. #DFIU
On Saturday I said “if AWS US-EAST-1 goes down, you are going to know” during my presentation w/ Cheryl Biswas at @hackfest_ca about Critical Infrastructure risks. Outages like this which expose unknown dependencies will be increasingly common in the future, not less.

Well, there’s another successful #BSidesLV in the books! Every year for the past 13ish (thanks COVID) years, it’s been a pleasure to work alongside the many staff members and volunteers that make this small but mighty Conference the global influence that it is. The past two years, I’ve had the opportunity to be closer to, and to get to know more personally the #SkyTalks @dcskytalks crew (maybe this becomes BSSkyTalks, which makes me giggle). I have had a long time friendship with @donald4nh, but getting to know @CircuitSwan @bluknight @troutman and the crew has been so humbling and wonderful. The talks were great and the ever famous BSidesLV Pool Party (lastnight) was rocking, and saw the likes of @dualcoremusic @brianredbeard @MrJeffMan @v3rtig0 AgentX @brianredbeard Mandy_Logan and more! Hope to see you all at @defcon !!!

Today, ICE carried out an unconstitutional raid in Newark, detaining lawful U.S. citizens, including a veteran who served our country, without a warrant. This is a flagrant violation of New Jersey's laws, our residents' rights, and the Constitution. Full statement below:

Trust me when I say this book will come in handy. Chapter 1 is titled "Resist."

TikTok is now region locking Americans from looking up things like "fascism" and "Donald Trump rigged election" on the left are results from a device in America, and on the right are results from one in the UK.
Hi! Holocaust historian here. Let me see if I can help. That wasn't a "weird salute." It was a Hitler salute. Because Elon is a fucking Nazi. Hope that helps!
Very weird salute by Elon Musk just after ending his speech.

On Monday I am going to a big conference in a red state. Many of my colleagues dropped out at the last minute because they are not legally permitted to use restrooms in that state. Think about that for a minute. We are not doing OK as a country.

Quick PSA: Someone is attacking Tor right now and has been for a few weeks. The attacker is spoofing the IPs of Tor Exit and Directory nodes, and blasting TCP SYN packets indiscriminately on 22/TCP- spurring a large amount of abuse complaints to hosting providers, which are then temp blocking/banning Tor infrastructure which isn't actually doing anything wrong. For the time being, I recommend all hosting providers *ignore* abuse complaints that indicate "SSH scanning" or "port scanning on 22/TCP" and originate from any of the following IPs: pastebin.com/idKU0agt This is a clever attack. I'm working with partners to triangulate the true origin of this traffic then try to get it disconnected. Weird attacker website here: r00t.monster Related links: gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/ne… lists.torproject.org/piperma…

Great post by @DougMadory on a route leak by Uzbekistan’s state-owned provider. This great opportunity to share of our work identifying state-owned ISPs worldwide. Our work is key to understand the role of state-owned networks in routing security Link below 👇
In this blog post, I dug into a recent BGP leak by Uztelecom (first reported by our friends at @Qrator_Labs), by looking at impacts in BGP and NetFlow. This is the first post in a series entitled Beyond Their Intended Scope — a nod to the definition of a leak from RFC7908.

One day we are going to wake up, after years of the consistent and pernicious pollution of critical information ecosystems, and deeply regret this era of thoughtless LLM deployment. A devastating loss of accuracy, clarity and conciseness -- for what?
The internet has been progressively diluted with AI-generated slop. Are medical records headed for the same fate? 🧵 I just published a perspective in @NEJM with @AdamRodmanMD and Arjun Manrai on why rushing AI into medical documentation could be a mistake.

So @every asked me to write about top level internet domain shenanigans. Come for the story of how a bunch of Slovenian academics stole the .yu domain. Stay for why the entire .io TLD might disappear due to a minor treaty between Britain and Mauritius. buff.ly/3zTcZyt
I will be at the @POLARconference in Quebec City this week, and honored to be on a panel discussion with @iiamit and @kayla_obviously, moderated by Kendra Cooley. I expect to be representing the curmudgeon viewpoint, like @MrJeffMan would want me to.
